Bringing in the new year with a bang
I?ve stopped using live ammo to ?shoot in the new year?, the last several years has been loading the muzzleloader with no ball, just heavy patches and lopping the business end off of shotgun shells to make blanks.
This year the muzzle of the AR will have a red doomafaji in it and several magazines loaded with blanks. I wanted to do the same with the AK but since my AK does not have a threaded muzzle there is no blank adapter for it.
Making lots of noise at the stroke of midnight has been a tradition in my family thanks to my Grandpa, a WWII vet that had a bit of a mischievious side to him. He would load up all of his guns and empty all of them as fast as he could aiming at the side of the mountain behind his house, I used to think when I was a kid that it was the coolest thing ever, Grandpa was my hero.
But now, I think about all that lead being sent up every year and sometimes that lead finding a person to land on, that would be the end of me if I ever hurt someone like that. That?s why I started loading blanks and this year I think Grandpa would smile when I send off 200 rounds of blanks out of that AR at midnight.
Oh and since there is always alcohol involved this is much safer, the guns are always loaded before the drinking begins and live ammo is never in the same room, safer that way.

When I got the Ruger Blackhawk in 30 Carbine I said if folks woke me at Midnight firing off their guns I would break that out.
We since I got it they all seem to be quite now.[:D] And I never told them what I was going to do just thought it.0 -
In my neighborhood they shoot live ammo into the air on New Years and the 4th. I have a .45 hole in my carport roof (missed the Tundra, this time anyway) and have dug several slugs out of my shingles. Morons never seem to figure out they come down somewhere. Every few years a bullet comes though a roof somewhere in town injures or kills a child.

I figured out that the New year comes whether you make noise or not. So out of respect to others, I don't bring/ring in the new year with a bunch up unnecessary noise that might disturb other peoples sleep... Except for maybe my snoring 0 -
I hear a lot of fireworks going off around town on New Years every year, and it never bothered me a bit. I see no problem with blanks, either. 0 -

acetalyne bombs are more fun than tannerite or any ammunition.
I lived in a small town of 200 people and some friends were lighting them off. A large garbage bag will set people straight up in their beds for 3 miles around.
I still shoot live ammo on the 4th of July and New Years at midnight. I just fire it into my backstop same as during the day. Nothing unsafe about that.0 -
