Rifle Scopes
Looking for the best rifle scope under $250. I currently have a Bushnell 3x9x40 on my muzzle loader and a Swift 4x12x40 on a converted 10-22. Looking for a new scope for my Winchester Model 70 22-250. I expect most of my shots to be 250-500 yards. Any ideas?

I am seeing scopes advertised as first focal plane or second focal plane.What does that mean and which is best? 0 -

Which is best depends upon your use and preference, there is no right answer, without knowing how you shoot. Second plane scopes have always worked for me, but I limit my shooting to about 250 yards. If you shoot longer ranges first plane scopes may be better for you. 0 -

Know the ballistics of the rifle you are shooting. Holdover, drop fancy scopes with lines... all not really needed. Carlos Hathcock didn't need it. Didn't have it. Mil dot ballistic calculator scopes are nice but plain ol' cross hairs work also. 0 -

I can't say he "didn't need it" but he didn't use it cause it wasn't really available to him.
With the equipment available at the time, he would have considered himself lucky just to have a scope that didn't fog up constantly.0 -

Unertl scopes were high glass money and worked fine.0
