Walmart and Ford team up on delivery service

Ford Motor Co. and Walmart Inc. have started a joint pilot to explore how they can use self-driving vehicles to deliver groceries and other consumer goods.

Walmart driverless cars, Amazon Helicopters and Sears Kaput. OH wait, Sears is Kaput no vision.

Who knows, in a few years short haul truck delivery service might be automated and electrified.

    weeellll.i can just see granny tottering out to a driverless car at the curb to manage a load of groceries before it kicks into gear and drives off to the next fast delivery...by the end of the day someone might get a bonus of extra free eats....

    A lot of people seem resistant to technology on autonomous driving and other functions.

    Fact is if you are a student of people driving you would realize that even with the occasional glitch AI drivers will be 100x better than 95% of humans.

    How many times have you been sitting at a red light and three or four cars get through when a dozen or more should have?

    Or some jackass veers across five lanes to correct a missed exit, AI won't do that.

    AI can control traffic flow preventing the slow pokes and speed demons from spreading traffic patterns out making it near impossible to cross a street, or dallying in the left lane holding up everyone else because you have a "right" to be there. I could go on and on

    While I agree with your post 98, I see one big problem, considering the state of our legal system. If Jeff makes an error and hits a bus load of brain surgeons, Jeff get's sued for everything he is worth (hundreds of dollars). If the AI has a glitch, Ford or whoever get's sued for billions. That has to be resolved before AI will be the norm. I'm not anti-tech, I spent a good part of my life designing laboratory automation.

    Driverless ANYTHING isn't going to happen soon, if at all. They'll be robbed, pilfered and destroyed!

    Anyone remember that "robot delivery" they tried in NYC a couple of years ago? It was stolen before it got two blocks!

    Plus, the liability of driverless anything is going to be huge.
