Up sizing...a bit.
For past couple years been carrying an ultra compact 380 pistol. I don't enjoy carrying a pistol so I wanted the smallest and lightest one I could get. But the 380 isn't exactly a powerhouse and worse, I can't be confident of hitting the target beyond 20 feet.
So I looked at some compact 9mm pistols. Settled on one that is definitely bigger than the 380 but I think I can live with it. Going from a 90@950 to a 115@1200 makes me feel better. I also found that I can easily stay on target out to 50 feet with the larger pistol with its improved sights.

I have had similar fitment or wear ability issues related to size and weight...
My normal carry is a .32 s&w long snub nosed revolver which will do the job right
Alternative is a bit larger - s&w model 469 first gen wonder nine high cap compact double stack semi automatic designed to a military police spec
Both guns are flawless and run perfectly

I'd guess a Sig 938, but it's really not any bigger than their 380.0 -
I got makaila the sig nightmare in a special triple black finish that was a limited run for one of the distributors - Davidson's maybe...
It's not a full sized gun but bigger than yours I believe - a middle sized option I would guesstimate
She loves it - but she carries in a purpose made carry purse or carry shoulder pack (like a mini victornox single strap tactical backpack style)
She does not belt or waistband carry because she were nurses scrubs all the time
It's I top quality gun - problem free
