Hey guys anybody know if replacing the LCDI plug on a 110V window unit AC with hospital grade type plug is doable? Or will it cause a fire?

(test button is down, reset button just flashes no power to unit)

Been told that the entire cord needs to be replaced, but doesn't seem to be available from manufacturer.


Mama's getting grouchy, and HD don't open till 7:00! Fraid to tell her to sleep in the car.[:0]

    tell her to uncross your legs, every woman I know when they uncross their legs the heater kicks on and my whiskey freezes[:0][:o)]

    As long as the receptacle, wiring, and breaker are sized correctly, there is no need for a LCDI plug .
    Copied and pasted from another source " If the user determines that the LCDI cord set is not required by the local code, cord AP9871 without the LCDI may be substituted."

    Any plug of the correct amperage will work. All the extra crap on that plug is just stuff waiting to go bad.

    I have four window AC units in my house, and EVERY SINGLE ONE has had a bad GFI plug.

    I replaced them with just a standard 15 amp plug, and all is fine.

    Thanks, I thought that might be the case so I cut one from a puter power cord last night, didn't help, probably a start cap, or the compressor gone. Cheap unit, Not Worth messing with.
    Heading up the road to Sam's in a few to pick up another piece of junk. [V]

    The entire power cord assembly was tested & rated for your A/C unit by a test laboratory (probably UL). If you aren't comfortable sizing & putting together the replacement cord, you might want to have it done by an electrician or qualified repair shop.

    As always, an A/C unit should plug directly into a permanent outlet.
