Tears of Pain

I have been a long time sufferer of chronic pain from injury and arthritis . Every once in awhile this pain seems to override medications and overwhelm me to a point that I can only sit and rock slowly back and forth with tears running down my face.


I know there are some folks here that have to, or had to, endure a lot of pain. Am I the only one that ends up shedding tears of pain rather than tears of sorrow . Or do they both come from the same place ?

    My Dad has suffered for a long time. He had a staph infection in his thoracic vertebra that led to a compression. He described times where he would spend nights in a seated position in tears. even with oxycontin it wouldn't touch the pain. He's described being in so much pain that he could see it, that it was like a wall that he couldn't get through. He ended up with 3 fused vertebra in his back with 9" titanium rods....then his lower back went and he stated all over again. It usually takes him 30 minutes to get going in the morning. He whimpers with the pain and doesn't even realize it.

    So you're not alone and shouldn't be ashamed.

    I have had cluster headaches and as you have said can only sit on the floor and cry, It is about like a ice cube on a toothache, only no relief and about 20 minutes at a time. knock on wood they have gone as mysteriously as they came

    I really feel for you. While in recovery from my neck surgery when the muscle spasms hit I would break out in a cold sweat shivering like a dog crapping a peach pit with real tears running down my cheeks. Those tears were because of the pain the unrelenting pain. I did not know that level of pain could exist for a human. It was also unnerving to know the narcotic pain killers I was taking were useless against that pain, so I stopped using them altogether on day nine.

    i can relate bpost, since '85 dr has prescribed just about every damned pain killer trying to find one that will work
    i recently threw away 2 zip lock gallon size bags of them that didnt do anything for pain, just mess with my head

    son shook his head and asked if i knew how much i could have gotten for those on the street, you could have probably bought a new truck

    I too have been their. I have hurt so bad that tears would be coming out and i would ask or beg God to let me go.

    I am in pain daily now but it is better than that on most days. I do not have them that often anymore. Thank God.

    I have pain events so bad that they have taken me to the er in an ambulance...

    Sometimes it can go on for days despite massive doses of high level pain medicine...

    I don't ever cry. I couldn't imagine pain making me want to cry. when I'm in pain it only makes me want to break stuff.

    seriously. last major pain I had was when I turned around and cracked my head on the forklift rack so hard the other dude heard it halfway across the parking lot. so what did I do? picked up a 4' crowbar and damn near broke it on the forklift.

    And yes I have said it here before and will repeat it...

    I have had pain than makes me weep and cry.

    At the end before nord chose to pull the hospice escape hatch and was not able to post much here I spent a few hours on the phone with him one night were the pain meds were not helping...

    And most of it was him weeping and struggling to breath and unable to talk or think or maintain his self awareness or sense of purpose or control of his faculties...

    And I pray that none of you ever know what it's really like.
