I have been informed and entertained and saddened by your posts for awhile. IT HAS OCCURED TO ME, THAT NO MATTER WHAT, YOU HAVE BEATEN THE CANCER THAT ATTACKED YOU. You have remained your true self, altruistic and an inviting and personable man, no matter how bad the circumstance. Cancer may have attacked but, you have stood above the difficulties to keep doing exactly what you do, giving hope, inspiration and information to those lucky enough to hear you. I would only hope I could be a courageous as you in similar circumstance. Thank you

Did you manage to escape the hospital with a short stay or are they holding you for a longer period?

That was on my mind as well.

Mike, I hope you are out of the hospital and spending your Christmas at home.

I am home - they kept me for 12 hours and wanted to admit me but I went home...

Staying in the hospital over a holiday weekend or weekends is pretty high on my list of things I would rather not do

I have a case of the holiday blues and and am somewhat depressed - the pain and side effects don't help

No safe space or happy place...

Maybe I can get some sleep and eat something.

I am tired physically and mentally and emotionally and spiritually

Being home is generally better for me than being in the hospital

I know that sometimes it's necessary and keeps me alive

Right now I am not doing very well - and am somewhat hostile and withdrawn and angry and depressed

Right now the pain and neuropathy and nausea and vertigo and lack of functionality are pretty bad - it's runs in cycles

It's just in my case I tend to recover or improve better at home

Yes you have every right to tell me I'm an idiot for refusing to be admitted and leaving against doctors orders

I will be visiting the kids on the pediatric oncology ward tomorrow night - and will be spending the night on the same floor so I can be there on Christmas morning

I got victornox to donate 14 shoulder packs (cosmetic seconds and factory over runs) and camel back donated a dozed water bottles - the girls picked up some nice stuff from good will and the dollar store - under armor sent a dozen t-shirts and a local ice-cream place will have a soft ice-cream dispenser on hand the whole day

If not for the fast arriving visit (starting tonight) I might be a little worried

I managed 12 Ritz crackers and a spoonful of peanut butter and a bottle of water yesterday - I know I should do better but the nausea and abdominal distress have been hard to cope with

Somebody donated 2 hdmi cables so the kids can plug their phones into the TV monitors

I know that many of you are concerned about my welfare - I consider you friends and colleagues and peers - it helps

Mackenzie printed out a poster on oak tag that has the GB logo on it and the forum names of 20 people who have helped out - and a few who are no longer with us

Tomorrow their will be 12 girls from 10 to 16 and there will be 5 boys from 8 to 14

The plan is for them to visit other patients and hand out cards and decorations - the support dog will be with them (even those who need wheelchairs will do something)

Possible some caroling - balloons - Christmas cookies

I think some of the Philadelphia flyers players and wives may stop in

The girls have a movie marathon with empire records and Ferris buellers day off and Rocky horror picture show and Mary Poppins and the sound of music and wizard of oz and Brigadoon and little shop of horrors and breakfast club

For some reason they like me to read poetry to them - Robert Frost being a favorite along with Walt Whitman - the one nurse calls it ASMR therapy

There will be a blue light non denominational ceremony in the chapel which is a tradition / practice I was unaware of

The rabbi has asked my to speak briefly

I can get through it - get the needful things done - but will likely be hurting afterwards

I will do my best - helped along by contributions by many of you - unjust know it's not enough and wish I could do more

I just feel burdened and ashamed and useless and discarded right now - and it's not an easy thing to shake

It's 1:00 am here at the hospital and despite the fact that the lighting has switched to night mode and doctors and family have long since departed there are still some kids up playing poker and watching die hard while eating soft ice-cream

I am sitting in a giant oversized reclining chair next to a small tray table - I just went and got a pitcher of ice water and an 8oz Shasta ginger ale (pony can)

I have a blanket fresh out of the oven and a zip front hoodie on

The nurses are going to shut everything down when die hard ends (maybe 20 minutes)

I am going to try to get some sleep

Thinking of all the good you do for the kids is pretty amazing. Glad you can remain positive for them and feel safe enough to let out the other side of your battle with your remote friends here.

    Merry Christmas and God bless.

I do what I can - I do needful things - I self sacrifice often to my detriment

I do so because it is right and needed - I do it because the nursing staff and parents encourage me to continue

I have come to the conclusion that no matter now hard I try and how much I do I have very little to no impact on long term success and survive as

So I can win - but I can educate and eludicate and teach and distract - I can be that shoulder to cry on and I dont suger cote things and I can be a guidepost or beacon of light for those who are lost or have given up

I cannot effect real change - I can not perform miracles and I can not provide for devine intervention

But regardless I will continue to do what I can when I can how I can as often as I can to the best of my ability

    I can't not do it - I wish I could

I leave feeling impotent and unseen and and unable to effect change -

I would give anything to be able to shield them from cancer and pain:
