    Having just an antenna, with no TCM [V], I'll just have to dig up my old VHS tape and watch that great movie![:)]

    Montgomery Clift was afraid to take the role, he thought he could not stay on stage with John Wayne.
    But he was wrong his performance was great.

    What a great movie. John Wayne playing against type as a rancher who went a little nutty and went over the edge.

    Are you kidding???

    I am an ardent fan and grew up watching his films with my father - we had books about his career and would check off and rate the ones we had seen...

    For seemingly generations the Wayne sons protected his estate and his image - and you essentially saw the same 20 films in a constant loop on broadcast TV on Sunday afternoons and holiday weekends.

    But most of the early Marion Morrison work is unwatchable garbage - literally not worth making fun of.

    Jet pilot and ghengis Kahn are supreme dogs.

    I love JW and his good films - but the balance are plain awful

    He is one of the first great American archetypal characters - he does not act or play a role or get in character or method act - he plays himself against all backgrounds

    But the sons and the estate finally released almost everything about ten years ago and his image is no longer so protected
