Question for the truck drivers

I have been doing a lot of traveling with a trailer. When I stop at the rest stops I notice a lot of autos park in the area for trucks and trailers. If I need to use the restroom and there is no parking and there are autos parked in the truck spaces is one thing but if I need to sleep for a hour or two and either unable to park or wake up with a auto parked next to me I wonder if there is a reason beyond inconsiderate.

Are there any problems connected with autos parking in the truck/trailer parking spaces?

    You are only partially right, we are a cash cow for the states and you?re state is one of the worst since they don?t participate in IFTA and still use the ton/mile tax which cost as much as drivers wages to drive on thier roads. States like IN, NY and PA milk us for every dime they can, tell me why one bridge in NY cost $105 to cross it and where does that money go? PA has the highest fuel/road tax in the country and the toll roads are the worst in the nation and only part of that money collected goes to the highway maintenance fund. Indiana neglected thier roads for too long so they raised truck only tolls and fuel taxes to raise cash. One of the New England states has truck only tolls now to raise cash.

    Do you have any idea what ot costs for one truck to run in the USA? Do you know about the fees involved? Do you know the IRS collects money from every truck before you can even register it? Do you know what apportioned plates are and how much they cost and how that cost is tallied? Do you know what IFTA is and how that works?

    I?m not saying we own the roads but we pay for them, car drivers barely lay anytbing, just a little gas tax. When the suggestion was made to tax cars like trucks and make car drivers record every single mile and file on it people shreaked like little girls. You want the roads but you don?t want to pay for them. How many people use those roads to make mo ey but use loopholes to avoid paying for thier use? How about farmers, they are exempt. There is a forum member whom I won?t mention that borderline illegaly runs a business on the highways with his business.

    So yeah, we pay more, tons more but before you go spouting off maybe you need to educate yourself on how that works and research where a lot of that money goes. Again, we are a cash cow that has no choice. Want to ly my registration this year? It?s only $2300, $2850 if you count the 2290 filing, and every single state gets a bit of that money. And my IFTA, want to file that and see how that works?

    I have a friend that manages a Truck Stop. He was telling me that he goes out and pounds on RVs doors that park in the parking stalls reserved for professional truck drivers to wake them up and move. He says his company did not invest in that real estate to create a free RV park for all the tightwad inconsiderate RV owners that think that's what it's there for.

    So as you see, you are one of those tightwad inconsiderate RV owners that thinks that the designated parking stalls for professional truck drivers are there for you to use as a free RV Park.





    In the OP the man said "When I stop at the rest stops". He did not say. "truck stops". there is a big difference. Private property can do as they please giving special parking areas to big rigs. A rest stop is just that, a place to rest, they are public property.

    He can, when pulling a trailer, park in the truck and trailer areas to rest or to eat lunch for as long as they want or need to. When I had a 35' motor home pulling a 24' trailer with snowmachines or four wheelers and several 55 gas barrels I parked in the truck areas because I was longer than many trucks there.

    Car drivers that park in the truck/trailer areas are azzhats and should have their cars towed even at public rest stops.

    I tell you what, try holding back 80,000lbs when some cut you off/in fttont of you. You be praying to God that you stop on time. What about those car playing on the phone and nearly hit you. Any time a truck driver is in a accident, weare guilty until proven innocent.

    Between the laws, traces, and people in cars, shippers and receivers, and other truck drivers, this job is not worth it any more. So yes I'm a jerk, don't like kiss my six

    I tell you what, try holding back 80,000lbs when some cut you off/in fttont of you. You be praying to God that you stop on time. What about those car playing on the phone and nearly hit you. Any time a truck driver is in a accident, weare guilty until proven innocent.

    Between the laws, traces, and people in cars, shippers and receivers, and other truck drivers, this job is not worth it any more. So yes I'm a jerk, don't like kiss my six

    Yeah, well I drive a commercial truck as well, and don't even try to bitch about how bad car drivers are with phones. I see plenty of drivers in trucks screwing around with their phones as well. The idiot factor on the interstate highways is out of control. Idiots drive every type of vehicle out there.

    There is a difference between paying a fair usage tax and being ass raped like we are, like I said we are a cash cow and states are hammering us for funds and most of those funds are not used for highways. They have discovered that since we don?t have much of a choice they raise tolls and road taxes on is to unreal levels, hell I just paid Oregon $55 for driving state line to state line across I-82 and I-84. I have to file every mile in every state along with all my fuel reciepts then pay more on top of the tax at the pump. Yeah, we are being raped and you get to enjoy all that extra money.

    About the tax per mile driven my Main Complaint was they wanted to add a device to the cars to collect this tax. It would track where and when you drove.

    Sort of like those new log books I have heard you complain about.

    The best way to fix the corruption and raping of the trucking industry os to subject motorists to many of the same crap we deal deal with. Inspection stations, checkpoints, gov tracking and make you pay for using public roads just like us.

    This crap about ?but but but you get paid to drive........? is just an excuse made out of arrogant ignorance to justify the loss of our rights and the extortion of money, like I said we are a cash cow they can milk anytime they want and we are powerless to fight against it.

    I have to agree with you 100%. Not everyone is meant to be a driver. I love driving but this industry is going down hill quick. As a 3rd generation driver, it's sad. You always going to gave that DA out there no matter where you are, but it more and more of them everyday. And they are giving license to just about anyone nowaday. And the training these rookie get sucks, its rookies training rookies. My company asked me and my wife to split up and train. We both at the same time said he'll no. These rookie went through school and know it all. My father turn his CDL in and quit his job. We are not to far behind him.

    I don't get the gloom and doom, boys. I have been driving for 8 years I love this job. I make $70 grand a year. No way to make that kind of money doing construction, you can't make half of that in rural North Carolina.

    Plus I am now 67 years old too old to do construction. But by God I am not too old to drive the big truck and I am good at it.

    Allen, you only see this from the comfort of the drivers seat, totaly oblivious to what goes on behind the scenes and all you do is drive on 10/20. You came north ine time and told all of us you would never do it again. Hell I?m in New Jersey right now, just south of NYC, what?s the big deal, are you a truck driver or a tourist? You skirted New Mexicos port once, you had no clue as to the penalties involved, you got busted with a bad airbag, do you know what that does to your companies MCS150? Ever driven the rockies in the winter and dealt with chain laws? Crossed over Cabbage and forced to buy chains on the side of the highway? Ever had to build the permit book? File your quarterly, go through an audit or anytbing else besides just holding that steering wheel?

    I started out as a mechanic, got a Class III license when I was 18 and grandfathered in to the CDL, started driving in 1991, bought my first truck in 1993 and have been fighting ever since. Yeah I quit in 2005 and went overseas, drove truck in Iraq and then used my mecahnic background to land a job as an FSR for one of the companies buding MRAPS. All I know is trucks, been playing with them since I was a teen, this is my life. I?ve seen this go from one of the funnest jobs to what it is today and it sucks, but I?m stuck. I worked as a mechanic and a city driver when I came home from the Middle East then right back in a truck, fought my way back to being a truck owner and now I run my own MC#, I no longer have a boss. Now not only do I drive but I am now the dispatcher, safety manager, permit guy, accounts recievable guy, maintenance guy and everything else invovled with running this truck, even though I only have one truck I am a company. USDOT# 2957707/MC Docket 066203. Not trying to be an ass Allen but you havent even tipped the iceburg yet, you have no clue what goes on behind the scenes and the money that gets milked out. Last month I gorssed over $30K, wanna guess how much of that went into my bank and stayed there?
