Today was a rough day

Idahobound
Helped move out the last off my Grandmas belongs out of her house the she has been in for over 60 years. She hates having to move but can no longer live alone. She is currently living with my parents about 20 min in town I have always dreamed about buying this place but there is no way it would work with my work. That place Has had a lot to do with my personal development of the man I am today. I worked hard on this place. We hayed over 80 acres. Had many cows and horse. I fenced, dug many springs,!burned ditches, grandma and I were know for a controlled burn that was anything but in control Most importantly I learned how to shoot and use guns.
From and early age I was always out at grandma place. It was 80 acres of freedom. I shot my first gun there. The magpies didn?t have a chance with me and my new Winchester 9422. Anyway it is gone now my uncle has it sold and will have a new owner in a couple of days. I would be lying if I told you my eyes were dry as I pulled the last trailer load down then hill.

    Rough to lose a place like that with so many memories. On the up side, think how lucky you were to have a place like that in your youth, so many don't. I hope your Grandmother does well in her remaining years.

    Too bad you couldn't have bought it and leased it out until you were ready to move on it.

    I went thru the same with my grandparents farm.
    Saddest part now is that the old house and buildings have been torn down.
    Its hard to drive by there now.

    It was a great place on the bench just south of Inkom. Right below Peeble Creek. Great views.

    Not rubbing salt in the wound, but bet you got to see lots of nice Bucks and moose on that place when they moved down onto the winter range.

    Went through the same thing with the house I grew up in. Tried renting for a while after mom died. It just became a constant burden.
    After a few tears, I was glad it sold.
    At least we can drive by every now and then.
    I found that you really can?t go home again.

    All of the acreage was split off and sold separately and the old stone house built by my Great Grandfather was at least left alone.

    On a happier note, I have stopped by the old place a couple of times and was welcomed in to visit and share my life memories with the nice folks living there.

    We are giving away the house I grew up in.
    Between section 8 and the wonders of diversity the solid working class neighborhood turned into a stuffhole with shootings and stabbings every week.

    I spent Tuesday and Wednesday helping my folks move to Assisted Living. It was tough to see them move into a place where their privacy and freedoms will incrementally erode away. But unfortunately it was necessary. They were to a point of needing people to stay with them. They had to part with alot of stuff they've had for many, many years. Unfortunately my sister and I don't have the room to take alot of it, so some really nice furniture was donated to a veterans group to sell. Has been a depressing few days, I know for my Dad. My Mom is fading away with Alzheimer's so she has really been confused with what is going on. Was tough seeing their house empty, even though ti wasn't a house that I lived in.

    Man it wasn?t much easier today. As I was headed back to WY driving down I-15 was looking up one of the best rock chuck hunting ravines that I have have hunted. I bet I have shot 1000 chucks over the years. I am kicking my own ass for not bringing my trusty 9422 and taking it on one last walk around that property.

    On an opposite note: When my Dad died 20 years ago, we bought out my siblings and remodeled the old home place, a 50 acre farm. At 80 years old, I now sleep in the bedroom where I was born!

    That is a hard thing to deal with, I went through it when my grandmother sold the farmette in PA. Next will be when my uncle can no longer run the Craft farm in Ohio, that one is going to hurt. I was born there and spent a ton of my youth there. That farm has always been a sanctuary for me, my safe space and when it is gone a part of me will be gone with it.
