    To track a dead or shot deer i have no problem.

    In NC where i live hunting with dogs is legal. I personally am against hunting with dogs.

    I know way to many people who will just kill a dog if he is not a good hunter.[V] I have seen someone do that and i flipped out. I had to lock my guns in my truck and give my keys to my best friend. Thats how made i was. Im sure everyone thought i was a prick but i called the game wardon on him. I will not see an animal hurt. Just cant do it.

    He had to pay a fine that was it. A few dogs would end up at my Dads place every year. People from Raleigh would rent the woods around my Dads house. Every year he would catch a few hunters dogs and feed them very well. He even built a dog house for other peoples dog.

    I will say this my Dad has caught the same dog 3 years in a row. The man who owns him is a doctor in Raleigh 2 hours away. The doctor is super grateful. The first time my Dad caught the dog the man offered Dad 100 dollars for catching him and he came that night to get his dog.

    My Dad turned him down and told him dog food was only 10 dollars. The man tried to pay 10 dollars and my Dad told him that is not how we do it in the country.

    The next time Dad caught his dog the doctor asked if he wanted to keep the dog until the weekend or if he wanted him to come get him now. My Dad made the mans dog a dog house.

    I know he caught the mans dog at least 3 times and probably a lot more. My Dad loved dogs but would not own one because he thought a chain was cruel to keep a dog on and if it was not chained up he was scared of him getting hit by a car.[:(]

    Chains are illegal here, they much be fenced. Not that there is a lot of compliance or penalty.

    I remember my grandfather keeping dogs just for deer hunting, in Arkansas. I don't know if it is still legal for dogs in Arkansas.

    In NJ, I mean Communist NJ, It is illegal to hunt with dogs. BUT, if you kill or wound a deer, the state has a free service, where a dog can come out to locate it for you. It is actually free. The only free service in NJ.[:0] Who would have thunk it.[:o)] They started this program a few years ago. The guys that come out with the dogs, will recover the deer for free. You are welcome to tip if you want. I never used them, but a few friends did. They tipped the guys for their gas money and food for the dog. I think that is pretty fair. The swamps where I hunt, are loaded with briars, water and dense brush. Sometimes tracking a deer can be a long, hard, bleeding process. Still, I like to find the deer myself. Part of the hunt.

    Man, I don't know. I forsee terrible trouble. Here it is. A hunter sitting in the woods hears crashing through the brush, just knows it's his chance. Takes a shot at what he thinks is a deer. Nope someone's prized deer tracker goes down. So you got guys in the woods pissed off to all hell, guns in hand, see what I mean. Besides that, there's a belief among some hunters around here that any dog chasing deer are fair game for shootin'. Can't wait to hear how this turns out.

    This should be legal in every state! I don't even care if they say it has to be done after legal shooting hours - I think most dog owners would prefer that anyway.
