Brownie say hello
I'm not dead guys, between surgery, rehab,losing my dad, and general just trying to maintain.
But I wanted to stop by say hello.
The VA really screwed us, now the only way for someone with chronic pain to get meds is to go to a pain management clinic. Lucky I found one before I ran out of my fentynal patches. I was cutting up 100 into quarter, 50 in half. But I found a great doctor, he gives my shots up my spine, as well as keeping me on my patches. I still need both hips and knees replaced but I am on hold for that, rehab is a killer for me.
Anyway guys glad to be living, hello to those that don't know me.

damn sorry to hear the pain doctors are truly a pain I would bet every one on any pain meds is seeing one now . I was not happy about it and all the people I have met in the waiting rooms most are more pissed than me

years ago i could go to a PC when i needed it for my back ..and it was only 50 miles away....get a shot and by time i could get home it was wore off...so i did without ...when i had shoulders done i took one of the pain pills and it made me feel so loopy i did without...after a few months they quit protesting and worked a lot better....now years later just got a good dose of arthritis all over and wore out knees...but better than pushing up daisies...keep on keepin on...should have taken it a lot easier but that was way i had to go to keep all the farm going mostly by myself..700 irrigated and 1400 acres dryland 0 -

Hell I wish I had known. I'd be there with you now. I can't go hunting or fishing by myself. Bagging a deer or hog I can't dress it out without help. Squirrels are easy. I can clean fish. But I need help getting the boat in the water! Let me know. I'm always ready 0 -

Brownie, I?m thinking of going hog hunting some day during the week of thanksgiving in Perry Florida. The guide will drive us around on a swamp buggy and he does the gutting and skinning. Are you interested in going? It runs about 200.00 for a hunt on this ranch and that includes everything but the guides tip. Let me know ASAP so I can book a hunt with you. 0 -
Good to see you posting Brownie. Hope it won?t be so long until next time. When you finally get the new knees and hips I would expect that will make it easier to walk. Will it ease the pain? I certainly hope so. 0 -

I've got a question for other vets, I've got bad knees and hips. After my back I am very wary about getting it done. To listen to the doctor's they wanted to do it all in one surgery. But from what I have heard knee rehab is a most, to me I would thing about both knees, then after I can walk get the hips done. Has anyone had to go through hip and knee 0 -

It's not just the vets/VA but all of us with chronic pain ... It was the druggies OD-ing in Fentanyl that prompted a crack-down.
My primary care physician, after 2 years referred me to a doc at a pain clinic, which wasn't too bad but was a higher co-pay as he was out of network and a specialist.
But then two years after that he decided to move/re-locate but he refilled my scripts days before he left. He had sent a letter to my primary care informing them they would need to find a new pain doc ... After a month of not hearing anything from my doc I called and they said they could refill them once, but there wasn't anyone in down taking on new clients. They gave me a list of pain doc's in the state, some 200 miles away. As you probably know, drugs like Fentynal has to be hand delivered to your druggist and maybe it was just my doc, but they wouldn't mail out percriptions, they had to be picked up in person.
Anyway, after calling almost every pain doc on the list I was getting no where, and I called my "old" pain doc's nurse for advice and she said that without a doctors referral she wasn't suprised that other pain doc's wouldn't talk to me ... Anyway, she said she'd call my primary and tell them of a pain doc that had a couple openings ...
... unlike you, I didn't get to the point of cutting them for a little relief and to avoid withdrals, but I was starting to wonder if I should.0 -

My orthopedic doc said hips are easy, and recovery isn't too bad, but knee recovery is quite painful and takes longer ... I've got bone on bone in my left knee and very thin cartridge in the right and arthritus in both hips but he said the hips are a long ways off but he would schedule my left knee whenever I decided I didn't want to live with the pain any longer.
It seems odd that the Fentynal patches I'm prescribed for the pain in my back for two collapsed vertebra, doesn't help the pain in my knees.0 -

I don't know you, but I sure do know your pain. Government answer to anything where people abuse something is to try to take it away from everybody, whether they who need suffer, it takes no skin off their butt. 0 -

I had the same issue - my oncologist stopped owning the responsibility for high strength pain meds for intractable pain related to cancer
Sent me to a pain management specialist - mine was in network but required a visit every 30 days before renewing any scrips
You now must go to your doctor and physically pick up a paper scrip for each pain med - every 30 days and drop them at your pharmacy in person
Again cracking down on the oxy addicts and abusers and puppy mill pain scrip doctors - but making life difficult for those of us in real pain
The pain med doc required a high copay - the visit only lasts a few minutes and you get your scrips - no better then a drug dealer and more expensive - not a doc who manages your pain or treats you like a human being - the staff treat you like an addict or criminal
I complained to my primary care physician who took over managing my pain and writing the scrips - he is a superb person and doctor - don't know if your primary doc will do this
Still have to run around but no bad treatment or extra cost

Exact same deal, $50 co-pay every month, 30-45 minute wait for a 5 minute "visit" ... the nurse was the one that treated me like a criminal ... she would go so far as to tell the pharmacy "when" I could have the new prescription even tho the pharmacy kept track, but they would let you pick it up 2 days early ... unless specified by the order. Plus, the insurance company wouldn't pay if it was too soon ... and one time my regular pharmacy was out and wouldn't have a new supply for a week after I'd ran out, so I went to a different pharmacy and she got mad about that, said I should have called HER and she would have directed me to a different pharmacy ... I told her I called every pharm in the area and the only one to have it was on the far edge of town ... but it didn't matter. I think it was just out of spite she had me do a UA for the next 3 months, which of course isn't covered by insurance and was only required once a year.
My primary would occasionally write a prescription but only after confirming my pain management dr was unavailable ... something to do with their insurance not wanting the risk of someone OD-ing.0 -

My pharmacy could not get one of my primary long acting time release pain meds...
So I went to the local target (run by CVS) a mile down the road with the paper scrip in hand...
Explained to the target pharmacist what had happened - she also knows me by sight because the girls both get their scrips from that target...
They had the meds and filled the scrip.
The pain management docs assistant / nurse called me and was angry - claimed that "shopping scrips" around to different pharmacies was a red flag and an indication of addiction or criminal activity.
That was the last straw with me - and I lit her up about it.
As you state my pharmacy will not fill a scrip until 28 days pass from the previous one - they keep track of those metrics - but the pain people say 30 days only.
They tried to put a remark about drug seeking behavior in my file after I cancelled with them - my primary care doc threw a fit and submitted a notation refuting the statement.
My primary care doc makes certain the scrip bottle label note says "for intractable chronic pain related to cancer" which usually kills anyone questioning the scrips - something about that specific phrase he said...
And I heard the same urine / blood test nonsense from her - and I laughed in her face - I get blood tested so often it's ridiculous - and they test for pain med levels already (cause the doctor gets upset when I don't take them regularly and he requires me to take a minimum amount each day)
I commiserate with you both - it's so emasculating and frustrating some times.
