1911 Build?

I got a bare Essex frame in an auction box and a Kimber Pro Raptor II complete slide assembly in a trade lot. Considering a build. What next? Other than a good book.

    That is a series 80 slide and 70 frame so you will need to deal with that.


    I like Cylinder and Slide internals but Wilson and Clark make good stuff too.

    You'll find parts priced in two tiers. MIM, (metal injected molding) and forged. If it is for sale go with MIM. If it is to keep go with forged. A good book is also necessary, Might be a good idea to can the Kimber firing pin block. Unnecessary with a titanium firing pin. But I don't to get flamed here. OOPS

    Another problem is going to be the full sized frame and the commander sized slide. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

    I am not an expert and I have not tried it.

    I bow to FM's expertise[:D]

    He will know more than I for sure......

    Perhaps dust cover is correct?

    I built mine on a matched Essex slide and frame...

    Was very happy.

    Forced to sell it here on GB to cover medical bills associated with cancer...

    Reached close to $1100.00 - auction by locust fork

    Much to my surprise some amazing folks here bought it and are returning it to me - along with the funds raised to help cover some of my bills

    I am still shell shocked over it - hard to believe as I am not worthy

    It would be 'easy' to start pitching parts together but if you're in no hurry let's use a little finesse,,,,,,,,[;)] Are you in a hurry ???

    If not, I will take pics as we progress to give you visuals as to my limited command of the Kings English,,,,,,


    I no longer hurry. I appreciate your help. I have had these parts for a few years and finally decided WTH.

    I aware of the story. I am here; I just try to take in more than I put out.

    As far as the 1911 is concerned. It appears to be a nice build, but not the type I prefer. I view guns the same as I do my truck. They are tools and should be utilitarian in nature. No offense intended.

    It's OK.

    Looks meaner with crimson trace grips on it but the herrets are sweet

    Essex did good work IMHO and the frame should do well for you

    I was building a dream gun - but that was a younger version of me doing the dreaming - with lighter springs and thinner grips it makes a fair combat gun but is a bit fancy

    The sights are not ideal for a carry gun

    I look forward to seeing your build progress and learning in the process - maybe one of my ideas catches your attention

    It's the best I could do in my prime - but nothing near what you guys are capable of - and I can do much tuning or Smith work

    Blue printing the frame and slide to match seems to have made a difference

    And believe it or not a fair critique (what did I do wrong - what did I get right) from you guys would be welcome

    You got me excited with an Essex platform build - brings back a lot of memories - thanks...

    I left work and got home. I may be changing directions. I had an old AO 1911 I forgot about. It never ran well. I pulled the top and put the Kimber slide on and seems slick enough. I'll run it tomorrow and see. Then I'll build the Essex frame up.
