How hard is it to convert a 700 .308 to magazine fed or is it even worth the trouble?

Do you mean a detachable magazine? Really not too hard at all, fro what I've read. Just replace the bottom metal and maybe do a little inletting in the stock.

It depends on whether you're asking about going from an existing magazine fed to a DBM or from what is often referred to as ADL (internal blind magazine) to BDL (hinged floor plate magazine).
Brownells sells a kit containing all the parts needed to go from ADL to BLD:

The machining of the ADL stock to fit the bottom metal is something usually left to a gunsmith or talented mill operator. It needs to be a precise fit in order to look its best or it smacks of being cobbled. There are videos which show the process.
Going from hinged bottom metal to Detachable Box Magazines can be simple by using PTG drop in kits. It might require a tiny bit of fitting. Be sure to understand the magazine requirements.
If using what has now become the most common term of M5 DBM kits, the inletting is more significant and should be handled on a milling machine by a competent individual.Many of the M5 sellers offer installation as an option. It is not a Dremel kind of process.[}:)]
