Kangaroos and 9mms

I'm sort of reassessing the effectiveness of the 9mm as a self-defense round. Maybe this guy is an awful shot. Maybe he missed a couple times or just wings (probably the wrong word) the kangaroo.

But if he hit every time, that kangaroo hung in there for seven 9mm rounds and was still standing. Seven.

(Please note I'm assuming it's a 9mm. Might be something else. Also, video contains a very reasonable use of bad language.)

    Read an article the other day on pistol stopping power. It was real interesting and makes one think of the powerful handguns we all carry. Hunters well know that 1000 ft pounds of energy is the minimum to kill an animal of 150# or so...like a deer ethical. Whereas 9mm have around 350, 40's 400 and .45 350+. Pending ammo none of the above reach 1000. Not even a .357. Article also stressed carrying plenty of ammo if you run into a 150 # two legged animal that needs shot.

    The little pop-pop-pop of that gun is not confidence inspiring. Add in that the kangaroo is standing there as still as can be and presents no threat, and that cop still couldn't put it down.

    I think the old saw about "Nothing handheld is reliable." And I know that a .458 Winchester magnum is handheld, but you know what I mean.

    It had a broken leg and policy requires a shot to the head. The poor Roo was holding still, and this jackwagon couldn't hit him at that range? Shot #6 missed the whole animal by a good foot!

    I just read an article about how our military's new M17 and M18 handguns are going to "revolutionize warfare" by using handguns instead of rifles. Yup, revolutionize for sure, until you meet up with the enemy carrying AKs.

    Article obviously written by somebody (in the Pentagon?) who has never seen one day of combat.

    Years ago I had to put down a bull. He had a farm worker down, and was working on killing him. I had a 5 inch 357. I got one shot at about 25 ft, straight on, 158 gr. He raised his head, got him just above the eyes. Dropped like his strings were cut. We grabbed the farm hand and hauled freight, afraid he was going to get up. Bull never moved. If I had hit him anywhere else, was afraid I would piss him off and he would finish the worker- and/or come after me. Never been so scared in my life. Worker spent a month in the hospital, bunch of broken bones.


    Point of this rambling tale- IF you can put the bullet where it needs to be, it will work. If you miss with a 12 g slug, it won't.

    some where around 15+ years ago local LEO shot up a fellow I think he pointed or fired a gun at them
    he had 22 or 23 holes in him several LEO emptied there pistols on him
    he lived nothing vital was hit

    Shot placement and attackers will and narcotics on board all play a role in how quickly they go down. Anything other than a CNS hit typically requires multiple holes to cause substantial leaking of fluids.

    That officer, if that is what he is, needs to be working in an office job that does not require the use of a gun. What was he doing? waiting for it to fall over and die,, of old age?

    Either that jumper had some Kevlar under the fur or that officer ? , needs to trade his pistol in for a baseball bat.

    Ammo also has a lot to do with it,,there is a lot of inexpensive range type ammo out there but there is also 9mm with some serious knockdown power

    any 9mm was enough for roo cop just has no confidence or ability. you could us a .50 big if you can't hit it it don't count
