Computer question. On or off ?
Do you leave your computer on all the time or turn it off when you are done using it for the day ? I just had my big desk top fixed after being in need of repair for over a year. The man who fixed mine, fixes computers for our local schools for a living says he thinks it better to leave them on all the time.

I've always been under the assumption it's best to leave them on most the time....maybe. restart every once in a while for updates and what not. 0 -
Off. No one gets in when it is off, the router makes it harder any way. 0 -

If I don't turn mine off at least every other day I notice everything runs a lot slower. 0 -
We turn our computers on when we get up in the morning and off when we are going to bed that night or going out somewhere. We've never had a problem. 0 -

Turning the computer on/off ONCE A DAY is ideal in my opinion. One of the potential problems is "heat stress" in the circuit board. On/Off once a day results in the least amount of thermal "shock" to the system.
Would leave computers on all the time with never a problem but decided once a day is OK and every morning a fresh "reboot".
BTW: NEVER remove the laptop battery unless it is being replaced.0 -

Option #3, leave it OFF all the time. It will last longer and won't draw any power.0 -
Unlike some folks I turn mines off when not in use. I don't unplug like appliances when not in use but if the rates keep going up I might. Also if I unplug I'll get exercise [:D]. 0 -

Turn it off for a couple of days.
Then turn it on.
You will probably notice the first thing it does is run that "daily backup thing" you have set up.
Think about that.
HINT: The automatic backup you have set up will not run, if the machine is off - and I don't have the time to let it backup when it is booting up. I imagine most folks will "skip" the backup because they don't have the time either.

On except to reboot or when I'm away for days - when I also unplug the router. I reboot at least once a month, but when I do, the dang thing runs that one Win 10 update that always freezes up the machine. It takes two hours for it to give up and go back to the pre-update state. Major pain in the whosis, so I do the reboot just before going out for golf or something.
Off and on is what causes heat stress. Leaving it on keeps the fan running and all components at at even warm temp. Do check for dust once in a while, though.0 -
My computer set-up is so complex that I get mixed up running them.
My computers do not listen to me
If I keep them on they will be loading all kinds of junk, some good but mostly bad.
I use to have one big computer room in my basement but since the water damage I moved to higher ground with 3 computers in this tiny room.
Now I have two computer rooms and the on-line routers are down in the basement computer room.
My computers are controlled by on-line router switches
I can control each computer with a hand held on/off switch.
But??. up-stairs I can not see the router lights if their on or off so a small camera was installed to see the lights.
When the basement computer room is finished all this will be changed again. OOooooooooo
So for me if I turn my computers on/off it doesn?t matter as long as the master on-line router switch is off?..0 -
Go to COMPUTER, POWER OPTIONS. I set mine to turn off the monitor after 10 minutes of non-use, & go to sleep after 30 minutes.
Lots of system/software updates & backups wake it up during the wee hours of the morning, so they don't conflict with your work day.

I tell mine to "stand by" most of the time. I shut it down if I'm going to be away for 12 hours or more. 0 -
