Remington 572 Fieldmaster firing pin
I am trying to fix a friends older Remington 572 fieldmaster. It has a broken firing pin, and I ordered a new one through Numrich.
The problem I am having now is trying to drive the firing pin retention pin out of the bolt so that I can replace the new pin when it comes in. I have severely bent the one?ll punch I have that fits, and still the pin will not budge.
They sell all the replacement parts to rebuild the bolt, and I?m trying to keep from having to buy a completely new bolt which runs around $94.
If only I coul get the pin to budge.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Is it a tapered pin? 0 -
Try a drill bit that fits the hole. They are hard and cheaper than a punch.
Maybe the pin only comes out a certain way. Have you checked for a YT video on it?

Looked around and the pin should come out left to right. One guy suggested using a 1/16 nail set to get it started.
When driving a pin its better to get a bigger hammer than to hit it harder.0 -

Yes it appears tapered, and driving it out left to right it still won?t budge.
All YT video?s I have watched just show assembly & disasembly for cleaning.
I did read on another Forum where a 1/6th nail set was recommended to get it started. I guess that?s my next best bet.

You better keep a heads up and not break the bolt.
Sometimes when the one way out pin is stuck and not good back support to the bolt area where the pin is stuck will result in a cracked broken bolt.
Some of them old Rem bolts are not easily replaced very cheap.0 -
when you try again maybe add some penetrating oil and heat it up with a propane torch always seemed to help with stuck bolts 0 -
The fix was taking the bolt to a Gun Smith friend of mine when I finally got all the parts together.
He noticed that one of the extractors was broken too, and so I had to order one of those also. He drove the pin out for me, and put the bolt back together for me, and didn?t charge me a thing.
The gun lives to fire another day.
The parts toltal cost $70, so I told my neighbor I would charge him $100 for parts & labor.
I also ordered a pie from his wife who has a side business making custom pies & cakes for $35, so it?s all a wash in the end.
The pie will be a hit at hunting camp...[:p]
