Could've killed myself
Why do men think "I don't need any help".
Need to move the gun safe to the other side of the house. Having wood floors installed. The Sentry safe is extremely heavy. Used a regular 2-wheeler should had an appliance dolly. Also, realized I tried to pick it up from the wrong side.
Anyway, the safe fell over on top of me and busted my head wide open. Spent the afternoon in the emergency room--bleeding.
Now, I have 30 surgical staples in my scalp. The gash was about 4-1/2".
Wasted the whole afternoon and the safe is laying in the floor.
I'm 74yo, not 30, and I think I'm now realizing that.

Damn sorry to hear that but glad it wasn't worse. Yeah I think it is time to pay the flooring guys a few bucks extra to move the safe. 0 -

Certainly glad you survived that! Getting older is not for the faint of heart. However,
it does beat the alternative!
Have you ever used "floor Glides" or "sliders"? Pretty easy to use and very impressive how they work!

Sorry for your accident. Its hard getting older and having to realize that there are things you no longer should do for yourself.
Last year when I had an accident taking down a tree and had to be taken to the hospital everyone kept asking "whats a guy your age doing up in a tree in the first place"? It never dawned on me that I might be "too old" to do something.
Rest, take care and stay ahead of the pain.
I'll keep you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
EDIT: When I had to move my safe (650# empty) across the hardwood floors I took a floor rug and turned it upside down, put it under the safe and pushed it where it needed to go. Worked like a charm.0 -
Exactly- I'm getting on and still do stupid siht. I need to find a couple of young bucks to lift and move things around the property.

If I had been doing that, I would have gotten help from by buddy Wundudnee. He is older and smarter. He would have said hire two young guys to do it and we will drink beer and supervise.

I'm 78,,I have had an extension ladder (25 ft extended).
I left in on our front yard several weeks ago,it was gone next morning.
I am not even going to get up on a curb.
Finally, finally, realizing--

When he was 82 I scolded my Dad for cutting the grass when it was a heat wave.
Guess what dropped him at 83
Just had to cut the grass on Wednesday.

At 85 I am still prone to doing stupid shxt...it just takes longer.
It took me awhile to come to the realization that extended longevity has it's limits...when I forget I sometimes have to drag out the hydrocodone...no doubt 30 staples in your scalp will help you to remember in the future.[:D]

We have been remodeling, I have moved my big Cannon 5 times,, On wood our floors I tip it just a little and the wife stuffs a blanket under it and I slide it,,It moves much easier than trying to keep it up on a dolly 0 -

Learn a good trick moving a 600lb safe. Lengths of PVC pipe and it rolls along smooth as butter, used golf balls to make the turns.0 -

I am remodeling a room also and emptied one of my safes to move it , it was late so decided to just do it ( I think its about 500 lbs empty ) I just started just pushed twisted and wiggled it out of the way, duck walking, once it felt like it was going to tip,,, my shorts felt like they disappeared [:I][:I][:0] for a second [:0][:0][:o)]
but I did get it moved .. in the past I always had my two sons helping decided thats the best way [:D][:D]0 -

Knew a guy who retired, built a new house in a nearby small town. Ordered a new gun safe. Delivered on a pallet, he opened the door to see the inside and it fell on him and he died.

I was relocating a big heavy safe. Got two big studs too do the heavy work.
One was late and the one that showed on time said we can do it.
I said not we will wait he will be in in little bit.
About that time he drove up and the one young stud that wanted to start went inside. As we were walking towards the door to help here he comes flying out the door with my big heavy safe on a dolly, it tipped sideways fell off a 2 ft drop to dirt and almost/almost fell on top of the young stout stud as he was trying to keep it from falling.
All was ok but he was really embarrassed. Could have been really bad for him. The safe almost got on top of him as it was falling.
I told the other helper later that they guy that dropped the safe is stronger than a OX but only half as smart.
We now call him ox and smile at each other and he thinks we are bragging about him.
Guess moral of story is : When you get young stout studs to help, keep a heads for your own safety.0
