Saw me a Kerosene space heater

I was at Ace today since I had some coupons. turned out the good on 25% off one expired a few days ago [V]. Anyways I was looking over the space heaters when I spied me a big one that kind a looked familiar. You know the one that looks like a old floor model TV. Anyways it was $130 and the 25% off coupon would've helped. That ad I didn't know where I could score kerosene. I am after all in California and that stuff got to be illegal [:D].

Since those electric "heaters" are crap and with a kerosene heater I know it can actually heat a room . I could put a kettle on top or slow cook meat [:D].

So any brand better than other? Or will this thing kill me? Fumes or just burst in to flame. I figure by the time I decide on it it'll be 60? at night again.

    If you live alone, you might be able to tolerate one. They always put off a smell. And create moisture. There's a diffuser apparatus that sits on top of the wick mechanism that if it gets knocked off of the unit will put a flame out maybe 3 feet high. A relative burnt his place down that way. I think the ones the sit out away from a wall and radiate all around are better and safer. I don't use one any more and gave my last one away so I wouldn't be tempted to.

    i have one and the round one use to use them but the smell got to much and the naps where even better ,,no they are for extream emergency only with 20 gal K1 stored kero is a bout 4.00 a gal

    Spent time in Korea and Japan where they are common means of heat. I have used them for years and yes you can cook on them. Place one under a ceiling fan and set fan rotation in reverse and it will heat a house.

    Good for places where they are appropriate. Inside the house is not appropriate, unless it's emergent heat.

    I've known of too many cases of severe CO poisoning from kerosene heaters to ever go near one.

    I would look at the Buddy Propane heaters get the one with an O2 sensor so you do not get killed. Mine works great I have one that takes two Canisters and I took one out and put in an adapter now it uses the big BBQ size containers.

    Maybe I'll turn all the electric stove burner and put a box fan to blow the heat in to the living room. Yellow Neck fix [:D].

    Yosh, pick up a detector. They are inexpensive now and good for years. Plug in bedroom outlet. Good to go.

    I've been at the deaths by CO also. We only have one for our prepper package.
    Emergency only.
    FYI and PLEASE... everyone have and check/change the batteries on your smoke AND CO detector.

    I used one for many years . It had a built in low O2 sensor that would shut it off if needed . Then again I was living in an old farmhouse that was very drafty

    Had a whole neighbor family die by one of those one night... CO poisoning

    Mom, Pop and four kids dead as a door nail because of one. They're not meant for living areas!!!

    Rest in peace buddy, I will come to your funeral

    Or you can buy one of those Amish electric heater knock offs and maybe you could come to my funeral instead...

    Those Amish electric heater knock off throw out plenty of heat, I got two of them for emergency purposes and they work great

    I use a kerosene heater in my work shop.Light it outside and let it warm up before you bring it in.Set it outside to extinguish it and you will never smell the kerosene.Every few tanks of fuel,set it outside and let it burn until it runs out of fuel and that will clean the wick.They are super efficient but like anything else you need to use some common sense.

    They stink, and are one of the worst sources of supplemental heat.
