I was watching a travel show on PBS and they were in Italy and France, one thing I noticed is the people there are no where near as fat as we are. I looked it up to confirm it and yep we are Fat!

Is it our economic success, diet, lifestyle?

    What's this "WE" stuff? [8D]

LOL, the food I see in their carts is not cheap. Just low quality junk food and high dollar meats.

sadly I agree when my wife and I go out in public I see so many people way over weight and sad is a lot of the really young kids are well on there way to a early grave way too many overweight
sit at home on th einternet or some other electronic gadget
playing outside or being active seems to be a thing of the past [xx(]
I remember as a kid there was two kids in grade school that we called fat looking back they were a long way from what I would call fat now .
even thru high school I would say a dozen less than 20 any way that were over weight . even the teachers maybe 3 or 4
now seeing some one "normal " is getting rare ..
health cost will be out of sight when all these kids hit adulthood if they make it [:(
there should be food banks not ebt cards that provide food not junk food to all on welfare

Back then, people took pride in they're appearance.

When I moved to Colorado from New York state 47 years ago, I was amazed how nearly everyone in Colorado was much slimmer and more fit than people back east. Not any more. Might even be the other way around now that the old Colorado life style is no more.

I'm 57 yrs old. 6'1" 190-195lbs. (Not fat.) When my Son and I went to Dollywood (Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg) a couple years ago, when I observed the 2/3 ratio of morbidly obese, I made the comment to my Son - "If this Country every gets in deep shift, we are going to be in deep poop."

Pretty damn sad. Hardly anyone is "In Shape," anymore. This Country is in for a world of hurt, down the road. (Pretty much we are screwed.)

The level of physical fitness in this Country, is truly scary.

Most jobs don't require much physical activity anymore and calories are cheap. Simple math.

"They eat cheap food, which is to say high in fat and carbs."

They eat a lot of high fat/high calorie foods and don't expend any calories working.

I'm a "retired" senior citizen not on welfare with a medium sized farm and two part-time jobs. I'm NOT fat. In fact, just last week I had to dig through my closet to find some 32" waist jeans because the 34's were falling off unless I cinched my belt up way too tight.

I find obesity disgusting and have serious problems with not voicing this inappropriately.

I need to lose a lot of weight, and I'm embarrassed by my appearance.

I once read a book in which the Chinese popped a couple EMPs over the United States and caused the computer networks to crash. They waited about a week, and then invaded the West Coast not with machine guns and tanks, but with food. The idea was that most of America is so fat and dependent upon the government, that after a week of no government handout and food stamps, they'd easily sign up with whomever showed up with some more government cheese.

The primary cause is NO EXERCISE and the primary culprit is peoples addiction to transportation that requires no effort on their part, outside of pumping gas.

Where I live, 16 years ago the country emerged from what amounted to a 50+ year civil and drug war and everyone was thin and well fed. Finest bunch of women I'd seen anywhere.

The prosperity increases every year and MOST OF the women get fatter. They have more money to buy a "Moto", crappier food and live a sedentary lifestyle.

My wife walks everywhere and does not own a bicycle or Moto. We (I) buy food and not crap. They only canned item is Tuna. Everything else is Meat, fish, vegetables, fresh fruit and juice. A can opener is not necessary.

She has gained a couple of pounds over a 15 year period, is healthy and weighs less than 120, I weigh the same as I did over 30 years ago.

My daughter lived overseas a while and said that many of the additives we allow in our food supply they don't.

It does seem that type II diabetes is a growth disease, I can only assume diet lack of exercise is at least partially responsible.

When I went to school we actually played sports and had a gym class, we participated in outdoor activities today if I am not mistaken gym class is no more.

Other than doing homework or god awful weather we were not allowed to sit in the house, we built forts, climbed trees, played street football, baseball, or kickball.

Didn't walk to school up hill both ways but did a lot of walking.

I hope America takes a second look at the direction we are headed in we go back to physical fitness and academic excellence.

In the middle of summer vacation for school kids, I walked through the city park in mid afternoon. There are at least half a dozen well groomed baseball diamonds there. Tennis courts and a soccer field as well. There was no one there! Not one baseball game on a nice day. A couple pairs of middle aged tennis players and that's it! Little leagues have faded away for lack of interest. Fifty years ago these same fields were busy all day, every day during summer vacation. The kids must all be home drinking Pepsi and eating cheese puffs. Diet and lack of exercise in adolescence, has truly become a silent emergency in this country.
