another buck

this is my archery buck....it was a spot and stalk....i got in a position for a good shot in a half section of corn stalks of mine...ie a 320 ac field anyways i took a shot that i was 100 percent confident with. i shot, the buck jumped and run.. there was enough blood right there that i was sure it was dead close by so waited then tracked the blood trail that turned out to be a mile through the corn field, easy to follow, then another half mile to a dam of mine that has tree belt beside it and a lot of cat tails around the dam....it was just about completely dark when i seen it standing there and waited few minutes till was impossible to see anymore so at the crack of dawn went and found trail again but lost it after a bit...looked and looked and no luck...it was damn cold single digits and 20-30 mph wind...nasty..anyways it layed down in the cattails at some point and coyotes devoured it and this all i found....this is the only deer ive lost in the 39 years of deer hunting[:(!][:(!] anyways kids did B&C score and come to 170" 9x6 point deer the base on right side is 7" in dia. we have a pile of coyotes around...last year a friend of mine trapping in area and what I caught was over 150 coyotes!! so nothing will last a night.

    That is a heck of a rack! Sounds like you hit it hard and did everything you could to retrieve it!

    When I first saw the picture with the bag over his head, I thought, wow that must be some ugly buck. After reading the story I understood the reason for it. Too bad you couldn't find it sooner.

    The skull has about a 1/3 of the hide left on it. So not pretty at all amazing how quick and efficiently they can clean everything off of a carcass

    I was up there pheasant hunting this week. Found a deer on day 3 that wasn?t there day 1. It was picked clean only the spine and the head and horns left. Amazing how fast they work.

    Yeah coyotes are very plentiful here. I need to get steel in the ground and snap iron on them... I've got some guys wanting me to show them the finer points of coyote trapping

    Around here we have a very efficient carcass disposal system. Coyotes eat all they want, then eagles take a bunch more, followed up by buzzards, then crows and other smaller birds. Many animals love venison. Coons, possums, you name it. Even farm dogs and cats want in on the feast.
    Nice rack, glad you got something out of the hunt. After the deer season ends, I have found deer skeletons with large racks in the multiflower rose bushes in our timber, accompanied by an arrow. Have found 4 of them in the last 3 years. I keep the racks if the varmints haven't chewed them to pieces.

    Saw the pic first and thought to myself, why did you lose the cape, THEN I read your comments and thought damn that sucks. Nice rack. We have coyotes howling all around at night. I cut lots of brush and left piles for the bunnies. Hopefully they survive the winter. Quail are non-existent around here.

    Coyotes are very hard on game here With that and sone pretty severe drought and very bad hail storms our wild game numbers are down... well with the exception of prairie dogs and rattle snakes they've increased a lot here lost count how many rattle snakes we killed this summer
