Gun violence also has continued to be a major area of interest among researchers outside the medical community. On Friday, a panel of gun violence experts presented their latest findings and what the public can learn from them at the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting in Atlanta.
Among the panelists was Daniel Webster, a professor and director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research.
?Physicians, particularly the trauma care physicians and emergency medicine physicians, see the end result of gun violence, and it is a very brutal, powerful thing. One thing that is apparent to many of them is because these injuries are so devastating, prevention is particularly important,? Webster said.
For instance, ?roughly 60% of people who die by gunfire in the United States are by suicide, and physicians actually may have a bigger role to play on suicide than on homicide. They encounter patients who are depressed, who may have substance abuse disorders, mental health problems, a whole range of things, that may increase their risk for suicide,? Webster said.

Analyzing medical death rate data over an eight-year period, Johns Hopkins patient safety experts have calculated that more than 250,000 deaths per year are due to medical error in the U.S. Their figure, published May 3 in The BMJ, surpasses the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention?s (CDC?s) third leading cause of death ? respiratory disease, which kills close to 150,000 people per year.

Latest figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show there were a total of almost 33,600 deaths from guns in 2016 - of which more than 22,900 were suicides. Suicide by firearm accounts for almost half of all suicides in the US, according to the CDC.
There were only 10,700 non-suicide gun related deaths in the same year.

A person who's going to commit suicide will do it in any form that is convenient for them. Take away the guns and they'll turn to drugs. Are we going to now outlaw drugs that help most people? how how about taking away the knifes so they can't slit the wrists. Or how about let's get rid of natural gas that way they don't stick their head in a gas oven and turn on the gas. Well let's not forget cars, they can run their car off a cliff, or just park it in the garage and leave it run to commit suicide. We better get rid of all the cliffs, Bridges and high rises so people can't jump off them to commit suicide,we better drain the lakes and oceans so people can't go drown themselves, let's not forget to get rid of the bathtubs too for the same reason. When's this BS going to stop...
The list can go on and on,nothing in this world safe including other human beings. I can walk down a predominantly black neighborhood and be okay until I start hollering racial slurs. Then I don't think I would make it out alive. And that not only goes for black areas, but even a white person walking through a white neighborhood can find some way to cause a riot where he won't survive. So let's do away with all the other humans in this world besides me..

Experts are quick to point out how the European Union has a similar population to the US but the suicide rates by firearms are much smaller.
Of course they leave out the part where the number of suicides from all causes is almost exactly the same as if the only suicides that are troubling are the ones committed with a firearm.
Europeans don't have easy access to guns so have to resort to other means to end it all. A person who wants to off himself finds a way0 -

WHAT IT IS REALLY ABOUT......doctors who cause deaths from medical error or OOPS!! do NOT want pizzed relatives to have firearms at their convenience 0
