Riding Mower ?

I have a Ariens riding mower made by Husquvarna that is or 3 years old.

Yesterday when i went to start cutting the grass the mower would not go forward or back.

My land is really hilly so i thsideought the drive belt could be worn out. So i looked under the mower and the belt was good.

However i saw the left rear wheel was covered in grease/oil on the inside of the tire.

I am guessing the axle seal is messed up. My ? is what does the inside of the rear end look like and are the parts shot?

    On one of my riding mowers the starter will spin but will not kick up and engage the flywheel.

    No teeth are missing on the flywheel or starter gear.

    any idea?

    Sometimes.

    Sometimes they have a starter rebuild kit. You will just have to do some looking.

    Find the part number for the starer and go from their.

    If it is a John Deere you can look up any part.

    just work the gear out to engage with your fingers and than let go when you start it. YMMV

    if one works on other mower swap them, otherwise use the other mower...

    Many rely on centrifugal force to drive out the gear. They are easy to pull off and check two bolts one wire.

    The one in the Picture would work on a Craftsman riding mower. With a Briggs & Stratton Engine.

    See if you can disassemble the Bendix, if so just polish the big washer on the rear. (or move it to where the burnt spot doesn't make contact)

    You may have some mangled teeth on the bendix gear or the alignment of your starter has slipped and it's trying to go in crooked. Or you may need a little light oil on the bendix shaft.

    Some of those starters had plastic teeth that would all be there but still not engage because they had worn down.Get a kit with a new gear and spring and that should fix it.
