DINGUS up the road...dog suffering...can't take it
I've noticed a dog a few times as I was driving by. It was loose in the area, but seemed to be laying in the ditch or near the road most times I passed by.
I saw it roaming around....ears drooping by the side of his head and pitiful looking....not a chipper romping puppy, but super sad.
Then I saw it was inside a fence near that same area.....so I thought "ok, it just got out and its back home." I never noticed what exactly ever was in this fence, but it could have always been this dog's home. Who knows?
Anyway.....fast forward to today. Its 34 degrees out and it has rained ALL DAY LONG. A fine sprinkle of almost ice/rain constantly. The white dog is laying beside the fence in the freezing rain. I see it is trying to get warm by laying in the only sunny spot it can find......there is no sun.....but it must be better than 100% shade.
Its driving me CRAZY. I can't take it. I have too much going on to deal with it.....so I send my son over there to ask if we can buy them a dog house.
He comes home with the dog.
There are actually TWO dogs in the fence. The other one is on a chain....laying in the mud. Liam said it looked REALLY BAD, but this one was something that just came up one day and they trapped it in the hellish fence with their other poor dog.
WHY do people take in pets just to torture them. I think it would be a godsend if someone actually shot that other dog and put it out of it's misery. Liam has pulled a BUNCH of ticks off this dog. He's calling it "Henry".....but I'm thinking Pickles fits better.
Its a tall wire terrier looking dog. White, with a grey/brown patch over one eye.

You did a very kind thing taking in the dog and it speaks of your character. I'm sure he will have a good home now and he surely is a "lucky dog". 0 -
We live in very rural area, dogs get dumped out here, we end up with most. I named the last one "Jackpot" as he hit the jackpot showing up here, he hid under a leaned up canoe full of leaves until he warmed up to us. A bowl of hot gravy over dog food when it's 20 degrees outside helped.
Got his shots, vet check up, warm inside sleeping pad. He's living the dog dream now, appears to be a red merle Australian shepherd? Great dog too.
Henry Pickles got the triple sevens "777" jackpot too.0 -
Liam has been picking ticks off him.....lots to go. I gave him one of our flea/tick pills to try to get started on dealing with this.
He has had a bath, and is STUCK to my son's side everywhere he goes.
Pickles growled at Bonnie (the St Bernard) a bit.....Bonnie totally ignored the warnings and sniffed him all over to her heart's content. Liam was terrified that things were about to "go down" I told Liam that he will learn pretty quickly the only gal he needs to worry about is me.
I was NOT looking to replace my much loved puppies after losing two this year. The loss is just too much when you are so attached to them. I just cannot drive by something so pitiful as this guy was in the mud/freezing rain.
I've told Larry we are going to get a dog house for that other dog and I'm putting some hay in it. I cannot imagine them having an issue with that, but if they do I'll just have to call animal control to come talk to them.0 -
Kasey,
Akira is a registered and papered and chipped and tattooed purebred from high end well known breeder
Bouvier de Flanders sire and Akita damn
Our vet says less than 1% of dogs in north America have that lineage - small enough numbers that the resultant breed has no name (apparently common in Argentina and Peru at high altitudes and southern tip of the continent region
When we took took him home from the shelter - rescued him he was malnourished and the tip of one ear was shredded and necrotic - he had more than 10 cigarette burns on him - and healing wounds that look as if he was whipped with an electrical cord
The duck had been brought to a vet with an arrow through its wing
The cat had been shot with a bb gun several times and they had to remove them from beneath the skin
When the dog first came home he would crouch down and back off - shy away and turn his head away when you picked up a magazine or newspaper
I would like to administer the same treatments to the ones who hurt them
It's a good thing you have done - please keep us updated

mrmike08075....you are a sweetie pie!
When my daughter brought Bonnie here, she had been working with her for about a year. She was a shelter dog. When Coral got Bonnie sh was only 85 pounds and terrified of people. That is a SKINNY St Bernard. She was pitiful. When Coral moved she couldn't take her dogs with her. So, we found a home for her Bull Terrier (with an adorable forum member who found him a forever home.) Nobody wanted Bonnie though. We had 4 dogs at the time and I couldn't imagine taking another one in. I'm so glad we did. She has been an angel.
My favorite will always be my Golden......Jack. If any of you ever think about getting a dog and don't know what type you might like. There isn't a substitute for how sweet a Golden Retriever is. I'm totally convinced they have invisible angel wings.0 -
We had outside dogs all growing up. Bonnie wasn't allowed in the house until we had her for more than a year and I lost a beloved dog to age.
So, I am NOT against dogs being outside.....but I AM against them being chained up or fenced in a way that is nothing more than torture.0 -
good on you .
I know it will be well cared for
maybe call the local shelter about the other one chained up ( abuse ) maybe they will at least get it a shelter / house
we have 5 dogs one from a shelter 4 from people who " got them a dog" and decided it was a mistake
we have 15 to cats most were wonder in dumped off . My wife brought home another cat a few nights ago. It came wondering in out of a field next to my sons house while she was checking in on them
we just suckers for helping strays and unwanted pets
our group of buddies have a great home eat better and stay warmer and cooler in seasons than I did as a kid [B)]0 -
A mother is... still a mother - the holiest of things...
My grandfather always said if you could survive the night in the place or under the conditions arranged for an outside dogs shelter you were on the right track
I actually ended up spending the night in the barn with a horse and 3 dogs once upon a time - to teach me a lesson
No excuse for neglect - if you cannot or will not take minimum care for an animal then give it up
You don't need a Hatfield and McCoy style feud with neighbors but +100 on calling animal control
BTW in a small covered space a 60 watt shielded bulb and 3 Welsh cardigan corgis generate a surprising amount of heat in cold weather

should be a reward for people who take in abused animals .AND...there should be a SEVERE BEATDOWN for those that do it...both my buds are rescue dogs and have two rescue cats...they are inside when they want to be ..no problems ever and are our family....our little dog is so close to wife she never wants to get 10 ft away...she really was in the dumper when wife went to florida for 10 days...you ever see a dog walk on air when she came back ???? 0 -
I lived along the MN river a few miles from a tar road. I miss the place so much it brings tears to my eyes thinking about the years I spent there until my health drove me into this efficiency apartment.
There I was able to have a pet and it ended up being a male cat that I picked out of a litter because he was the smallest and always getting pushed away from the food dish. He was all white so I named him spook.
I was living alone by then and Spook and I had a amazing relationship. It was more like a dog than a cat. Spook was a house cat but I would let him out to roam some each day. Well one day he did not return so I went looking for him. It didn't take me long to find him as he was near my mail box. You could see the tire track that came from the road to the shoulder to run him over. To this day I swear I would blow a big hole in the SOB who killed him.
I guess my point here is just different ways that people mistreat animals. I lost my best friend that day - what did that peace of crap get out of running him over ?
One other quick story -- I was heading for town and down the road about a mile I ran across a small dog sitting along side the road shivering. I stopped and checked the dog over. It was an old dog in poor condition and blind. Apparently someone's Idea of how to get read of a pet was to take him to the river bottom and let the coyotes kill him. I had water in the car so I gave him a drink and took him to town with me. While in town I bought him a donut , and he ate that and drank more water on the way home. When a pet gets old and sickly generally a ride to the vet to put them down is the right thing to do.
Having no money to do that, when he was full and comfortable I took him to a spot out in the woods and put him down with a quick shot to the head He didn't suffer nearly as much as I did, but his life ended quickly and not at the hands of a coyote tearing him apart.
There has to be a special place in hell for people who mistreat animals and other human beings. Sorry for the long story's0 -
The roads are frozen everywhere. The news has been stuck on the roadways, school delay, and showing the fog.....its a winter wonderland out there.
My son got up, let the dogs out and tried to put "Henry" (aka Pickles) back in his bedroom.....which led to whimpers and a pitiful little song.
So, I got up and let the other dogs outside, fixed coffee and figured this day would be a dogie daycare until things get figured out. Once I got coffee and sat down at my computer I realized things were too quiet.
I found him......he has gone and gotten back in Liam's bed. So, I guess he just doesn't like having that door closed. If I had known that I might have gotten an extra bit of sleep this morning.
Liam called.....as he passed the house up the road he noticed that other dog still balled up in the same spot where he is chained up.....covered in frost.....laying there in the mud.0 -
