Playing some classic records - real vinyl LP's

Mackenzie dug through some of my records in storage and pulled out 21 vinyl long play platters - placed them in a milk crate - and wants to listen to them...

Yes I still have a nice record player (end table console model) with its own nice built in speakers - and I can plug 4 of my more modern speakers into it...

Bare with me because some of its a wee bit obscure - and while the overall theme seems to be heavy metal and hard rock there are some selections that don't quite belong

Please comment on the playlist - your comments are often enlightening

It's a pretty oddball and esoteric grouping - but I am interested in your thoughts on the music and on vinyl as a medium

    I brought my albums with me to Florida along with the turntable I bought back in around 1982. The turntable still plays great, and sounds even better with a modern receiver and speakers.

    Hawkwind. Saw them in the UK, 71-72. A mate of mine was a cousin of one of the guys. Got us into quite a few of the places they were playing. I thought I was the only one who had their albums.

    I believe the BeeGees would still be relavent if they hadn?t done disco.

    I will admit to being a fan of the brothers Gibb - call it a guilty pleasure or label me a temporal victim of disco based on my date of birth...

    And off the wall is certainly more disco than pop or r&b

    The soundtrack to grease (grease is the word) and stayin alive were as inescapable as as the air I breathed - an aural environmental factor of the late 70's

    I maintain that there are roughly 100 disco songs / tracks that are not only worth listening to but are deeply ingrained in American culture

    You act like disco is an affliction like leprosy (at least it's not kiss or Donnie and Marie or fat sparkly jumpsuit Elvis or Ted nugent or dolly Parton)

    Hawkwind is a bit of an underground or fringe band - heavy metal or space rock it's hard to classify

    When I was a kid I scored about 40 albums at a library book sale - all darker / devil music with satanic or gruesome or shocking cover art and some of it was pretty good music

    Not certain how to classify hawkwind

    Young Marine and in San Diego. Disco was the way to go. Loved it.

    Went to my share of rock clubs but had way more fun at disco's.

    Just had to add hit many of the places in L.A. too. There it was who you knew to get in.Way back then I could get in almost all of them.

    I prefer Vinyl or Reel to Reel over CDs or Cassettes. Once or twice a week I?ll have a 2-3 hour Music and Merlot session out in my room, The Boonies. My LPs are all original and purchased by me back in the 60s, 70s, and 80s; although over the last few years I?ve purchased a few new reissues of albums that were damaged over the years. You really can?t beat the sound of vinyl if your system can reproduce it cleanly and your needle and cartridge are setup and aligned properly. In the picture, my LPs are on the left side and there are just over 300 in that rack; mostly what would be classified as classic rock.

    However, I do listen to CDs quite often, mostly for the convenience!!!

    The Jackson five was part of the landscape of the 70's during my definitive developmental years...

    On the radio and on television they were omnipresent and powerful

    Off the wall is a fantastic album and thriller is also a tour de force - from beat it to the girl is mine Michael Jackson was a powerful talent (when he was still black and still sane and pre plastic surgery and drug addiction - pre child molestation)

    His decline was bizarre and sad and disturbing - but so were the final years for Elvis.

    It was a cultural phenomenon on pat with the Beatles or Elvis.

    I have a lot of blues and folk music and classic rock and pop in my vinyl collection - as well as tons of movie soundtracks and musical scores

    Mackenzie had been looking back through and deep diving into metal and picked out some early stuff - I but it's not representative of the whole collection.

    I don't think that most heavy metal or speed metal or death metal or punk metal from 1970 to 1978 will appeal to her - bit it does show the origins and roots of better later music and genre influences.

    along with an old windup victrola i have a bunch of gramaphone single sided records 78's ??, some old opera records and a set of old racy Burlesque party records ...called audult for that time but really just double entendres...jees haven't cranked one up for 50 years...i got two old victrola and those records out of first wifes grandparents house in the country back then and it burnt to the ground years later and that were the only items left...i gave the floor model victrola to a young gal who was first wifes cousin so she had something from that era ..glad i did, she was so happy she was in tears...timely as she died from cancer a few short years later
