Brown?s office listed nearly 100 vehicles that would qualify (PDF) for the program, which includes every passenger vehicle made in his home state. Vehicles on the list include the Jeep Wrangler, Ford F-150, Acura MDX, Honda Ridgeline, Mercedes C-Class, Infiniti QX60, and many more.

The American Cars, American Jobs Act takes important steps to level the playing field for the Ohio auto industry and to make sure Ohio?s tradition of excellence in auto manufacturing continues.
In Brown?s announcement, the senator called out GM for its decision to announce producing the new Chevy Blazer in Mexico the same day the company ended the second shift at its Lordstown, Ohio plant.
Right now, the bill is just a proposal, and likely several months away from a vote consideration in the U.S. Senate.

wifes relative lived in El Paso for years ...and AMERICAN car manufacturer had a plant in old Messico that made wiring looms....they sent the busses around to all the shanty towns to pickup up the women and kids every day and deliver them to work at the plant...day care took care of the kids and all were fed a noon meal...the women made $5 a day for working there..... 0 -

I don't see the downside of this. Basically didn't cost them anything to work, kids got fed(maybe better than if at home), transportation was free, and it was $5 more than they had otherwise.0 -

One thing the 'US automakers' have done is completely twist the term 'American Made' into something most consumers don't even understand.
The biggest twist is that they define America as North America. So they can put all the jobs they want in Mexico and Canada & still say made in America. You have to do some research if you really want to know what part of 'America' your car/truck/engine/transmission came from.
And then what is an 'American' automaker? Is Dodge? Owned/controlled by Fiat, right? Where do the Dodge profits go?
I'm sure Honda or Toyota aren't American car companies. Yet they sure employ a lot of Americans on American soil.
I guess it'd be interesting to know what automakers have the most employees in the USA. Another thing to research some day.0 -

Basic agreement here, Junkballer.
The Federal Government has, through the tax code inserted itself in our charitable giving, home purchasing, investment decisions, etc.
We do not need another national communist type policy to direct the activities of the US Consumer. Government picking winners and losers rarely works out to the benefit of the consumer, and it will not be to the consumer's benefit this time.
$ 3,500.00 tax break? Just what does this rocket surgeon think is going to happen to the price of vehicles that fall under this umbrella? There will be a detailed cost/benefit analysis made (properly, by the way) by these companies that will be designed to maximize profit regardless of whether it results in more, the same number or fewer cars produced and sold. It is what business owners should do for their shareholders, as that is to whom they are responsible.0 -
