Kidney stone:
Sitting here in pain from a kidney stone that I never expected.
I have had several over the past 10 years, two that put me in the hospital, and one that had to be surgically removed.
I am experiencing severe back pain from two bulging disc in my back, and the pain I experience from the kidney stone laughs at the back pain in comparison.
I wish this pain on no one...it absolutely sucks...there is no position you can get in that relieves it.

I'm sorry to read of your pain Trinity.
I left work in an ambulance, this past year, from work with my first. It was brutal.

My kid had one and hacked it out. He said never again, even if it meant an operation. Suppose to be more painful than giving birth[:0]. Hang in there. 0 -
They can be a curse no doubt. Just a suggestion: Staying well hydrated won?t mitigate the pain, but keeping your kidneys and related parts/pieces well saturated can not only move things along, but, on occasion, will assist those miserable little buggers in finding a ?happy place? giving you a bit of relief. Drinking plenty of water on a daily basis, in lieu of coffee, sodas, etc, can really make a significant overall difference when dealing with this curse. Ya don?t have to give up the ?good stuff?, just balance it out with plenty of water. (I?ve been down the kidney stone route a number of times. No fun at all.) 0 -
Do they still break them up with ultrasonic waves - sound waves...

I'm lucky -- I've had two but they were well behaved and got big enough that they were taken out surgically so I never had the experience of passing one.
I'm drinking more water now and hope I don't have a third one!0 -
I may have said this before if so forgive Me. A friend who works in a hospital says He has seen grown men crying like little kids from the pain of kidney stones . 0 -
I have had them for the last 17 years.
I must say the pain is not as bad as the 1st one I had, I guess I kind of got used to it. But the pain is very bad. I have not been shot but I did get a bit of shrapnel from a RPG, I have broken bones and been cut and burned fairly bad and none are worse than a Kidney stone.
Keep hydrated, I like to use beer or water and whisky for this[;)]0 -
Had one 2mm one time. One time too many. Hope I never have another one.

Hope you got your big gulp bucket of water to drink. That's the only relief I ever got. Have you tried ultrasonic treatment?

Spent three hours in the ER last night.
I have had several before, one that had to be removed, but this sun of a gun is giving me a pretty good fit.
They drugged me up real nice last night, and when I got home I slept pretty good, till the pain returned, and I jumped out of bed in a shot. Two Vicaden later and I was back in bed.
The Cat Scan showed this one was only 3 centimeters, was real close to the Kidney, and hadn?t worked it?s way into my bladder yet.
The first time I peed this morning my urine was a thick dark bloody syrup like STP. I still haven?t passed it yet, but I hope I do over this weekend, because I have things to do, and I don?t like the feeling of being drugged up...[:(]
I am drinking a lot of cherry juice, coffee of course, as well as tea, water, and OJ. Just about anything wet I can get down the old gullet except alcohol. Not sure it would mix well with the narcotics I?m on.

Been an issue for me since 2001. Done the lithotripsy and worn a stent between the kidney and bladder for 3 months. Doing the Lithotripsy each month.
Been in ER a couple times since. My urinary tract is scared all to hell from the sharp broken pieces. I had one come through the side of my pee-n-is near the base. Have had to pass a fair number here at home. At least 1 or 2 a year.
Last time was this past summer. You never forget, and the pain will bring tears to your eyes. I hope is passes quickly.
I have used cranberry juicy and that seems to do as good as anything. I have developed a great distain from the stuff however. Keep that water coming and if you have Vicodin, at these times they are your friends. Keep them coming as well.0 -
3cm????? That's over an inch. That's not a kidney stone, it's a freaking boulder. 0 -
They say in time all things pass. I sure hope that the stone moves to a more comfortable spot, real soon. We used to give steers a drench of apple cider vinegar when they had kidney stones, might be an idea. 0 -
A friend swears by water with lemon juice or squeezed lemon. She claims that the citric acid erodes them and stops formation. I just went through a bout with them a week ago, my first since '07. These were 5's & 6's pain-wise versus 7's & 8's in '07. This time as soon as I felt it I drank water til I couldn't stand it then drank more. Last time the nausea got me and I couldn't hold anything down. No water, no flush. Now I'm in stage 2, getting them out of my bladder. Red/brown piss will really get your attention. Time for another gallon of water. 0 -
My last one was 8mm in size and Dr.Goldfinger had to blast it out with a laser. Afterwords I had to wear a bag strapped to my leg for a week to catch any leakage. The pain from a kidney stone to me was like someone sticking a knife in my side and twisting the blade.

They can only do that to stones in the kidney. Once they drop into the Ureter (You do not know you have one until it leaves the kidney) they won't do anything unless you can not pee at all or have blood.
I went two weeks in pain before they finally figured out in their genius it was not coming down so they laser blasted that one (5MM) and then they did the sound blaster to the one in the kidney 6 weeks later
There are many myths about what helps prevent them from forming but there is only one thing that has been clinically proven to help reduce stones forming.
That is lemon/lime juice added to water. Drinking lots of water also helps but adding the lemon/lime to water is better
I buy natural lemonade and dilute it 50% water and I drink more liquid per day than ever in my life
There are a few things that are bad to eat which help form stones the worst being peanuts and spinach
My BIL is a stone factory. He has passed 9MM, keeps it in his wallet. Has a dozen or more sitting in his kidneys at any time.

A long term medical study demonstrated that Cranberry, cherry and lemon juice have no effect on the stones. I learned that after drinking over a gallon of Cranberry juice which I hate. Drink it if you like it, but any good effects are placebo. 0 -
Consumption of cranberry juice by patients of kidney stones is actually a best home remedy. Patients can consume these fruits in whole. But 100% natural cranberry juices, if taken regularly, will prevent urinary infections.
Mix 1 cup of cranberry juice and ? cup of water.
Stir it well and drink it.
You may add ? tablespoon lemon juice to it.
How many times to drink: 1 or 2 times per day.0 -

I did not give my opinion. My urologist recommended lemon/lime juice added to water because as he stated that was the "only" thing proven in clinical studies.
Believe what you want.
Cranberry juice is great for kidney health but does not prevent the formation of stones.
Maybe my urologist is not as well informed as some here on the internet but I am paying him to advise me0 -

My biggest problem is I?m not connected to a Urologist right now. The one I used to see moved a few years ago, and his replacement didn?t pick me up as a regular customer. I went to see him after the last stone I passed, and I only saw a PA who said their wasn?t really anything they could do once I had passed it, and they didn?t care about the stone I had captured in the sample bottle the Hospital had given me.
I go to my regular Doctor on Monday for a regularly scheduled appointment, and I?m hoping he can get me back in contact with a Urologist. You have to be referred by a doctor, or they will not even talk with you.
Right now drugs are my friend, but I really hate the feeling of being dizzy, and not on top of my game. They also have me on that dang Flo-Max, and it alone makes you dizzy

Glad to hear you passed it. Now watch for urinary infection. Your Doc may want to put you on antibiotic now. Keep up with lots of fluids,keep it flushed out.

The point of the lemon juice was not that it is a short term 'fix' but a maintenance method that slowly dissolves them and prevents new formations. 0 -
Glad to hear that it's finally over. Not sure if I've ever had one or not. I know I've had pain in my kidney's twice where it literally felt like someone was pushing a spear through me, twisting it, then cauterizing with a flame thrower. But they each lasted a few hours only. 0 -
