Do You "Watch" Auctions?
It stands to reason that auctions with a lot of "watchers" should also attract bidders. The opposite seems to be the case.
Do you watch? Do you notice any correlation between watchers and bidders?

I watch auctions. 90% of the time if I throw a bid in, it is 15-20 minutes before the auction ends. 0 -
Same with me, but sometimes I watch several for the same model to get an idea what the real world selling price is. Sometimes I see something interesting I know I am not bidding on, and watch to see how it does.
18 watchers and no bidders seems common with something I want to sell. I always suspect they want to sell theirs too.0 -
It seems to me that the watchers have the same item that the seller has, and just wants to see what the value of they're item is worth, or how much they can sell it for. 0 -
I watch many auctions sometimes on {elsewhere} close to a 100 at a time
I watch current prices ( what a item is selling for no wish full price the actual closing selling price ) or grab a item thats selling low enough I can make a few bucks reselling [:D]
I will also toss a low bid as a way to watch a item but its also a bid if I win, I will gladly pay what I bid
I have won a few items for a buck some with free shipping ,, but I have always went back and paid the true shipping cost or some fair amount ( being a nice fellow I cant take full advantage of some ones bad luck )0 -
I 'watch' because:
1) I want to see what the item sells for
and/or
2) I'm interested.
If I'm 'serious' I place a bit as a 'place holder' which makes finding the auction (again) easier.0 -
Yes, I watch auctions. For different reasons. Some just to see what they sell for and how many bidders. It's usually something I'm interested in but not ready to buy yet. Then some I am interested in buying if the price is right. I also but the items I bid on on the list. Then others I follow to see if the sellers lowers the price if it doesn't sell and I've bought several things when they did lower the price. 0 -
Watching helps me learn the values of items I sell, have or might want.

I watch because I'm interesting in figuring out a price point.
So, if I'm looking for a Colt 1911....I'll do a search for it, then quickly watch several that I think deserve a second look.
At that point I'll go back and sort through them more.0 -

Sometimes, I'm just looking for the right gun to catch my fancy. If the price goes above what I want to spend, I look elsewhere. No complaints

The main reason I watch more than I bid is because once I bid- I have effectively locked down that money until the auction runs its course. So if its an item im willing to get into for $1,000 well that money is committed the moment I bid until im outbid ir win.
If I wait until the last minute i can keep scanning and watching other auctions.
Yes I have lost a few. recently because I took my eye off the ball like the recent AR10 LF had up- I would have been glad to bid another $60-80 over what it went for but i was out and about when the auction ended.0 -
If I'm looking for a particular gun, recently a Redhawk in a 44 Mag was what I was looking for, I will look at every Redhawk under a certain dollar amount and watch everyone I like. I have a set amount I'm willing to spend. Once what I'm watching goes past that amount I stop watching it. On the Redhawk, I was watching one of Kasey's. When the end of the sale approached I bid what I was willing to pay, figured I would be outbid and went to bed. When I got up the next morning someone ran that Redhawk up to $5 less than my maximum bid.[:D] That was a close one!! 0 -
I should have added that I agree with Warbirds. Once you bid you are out of business on bidding until either you get what you wanted or someone out bids you. One time I was placing some low bids on several of the same model Glocks. I placed the bids where I really believed I would not get any of them. I got two and almost got a third. I sold one for almost $200 more than I paid for it so no problem but the third one would have stretched me a little bit. I am a little more careful now about bidding on more than one at a time!![:D]
I still do it but if I bid on more than one at a time I really low ball my bid!!0 -
I should have added that I agree with Warbirds. Once you bid you are out of business on bidding until either you get what you wanted or someone out bids you. If you go to a live auction, there are always more watchers than bidders. What's the difference here? 0 -
I watch by bidding what I can. If I can't afford to bid I can't afford to watch. 0 -

I got several low bids out right now but if I get them all I will be eating top Ramen for a couple of weeks.0 -
I watch stuff all the time for all of the reasons mentioned above. I sometimes buy but could never buy everything I can watch. 0 -
