GI Grave Stone
Anybody know what is required to qualify for a free government issue grave stone?

We got a bronze plaque for Dad's headstone. WWII ETO S.SGT. 0 -
My dad, who was a WWII vet was given a nice bronze plaque from Uncle Sam when he died. There was no need for a grave stone, as we had a nice double foot stone already in place when my mom passed many years before pop.
The bronze plaque had a hole in the center for a flag pole mounting and was used along with a mile of others to line the road around the cemetery. Each Veterans Day and Memorial Day, an American Flag fly's proudly with my dads name and info at it's base![^]0 -
take the discharge papers to the veterns affairs 0 -
Or take the DD 214 to a reputable funeral home, they do that sort of thing all the time and can help. 0 -
I think most will agree- Those gravestones are not ?free? merely paid in advance. 0 -
We got my Dad's a plaque to be placed in front of his grave free and went through the American Legion 0 -

Make sure that your family has a copy of our dd214. That should be all yu need. You could also contact the County VA Rep that is what they are paid for some do it for free.

My parents are in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. They provide the markers, flat so they mowers don't have to make fancy gyrations getting around them. 0
