Charity only $19 a month
Why is it all these charities I see on TV are "ONLY" $19 a month? St. Jude, the dog and cat shelters, the hungry children in africa, hurt on the job state police, cancer children/patients ect. Is it illegal for them to charge I mean want more?
If I gave all these charities their $19 a month then I'd be starving.
Besides would anyone give me $19 a month if I was hurt on the job? No I'm not a LEO or a fireman so I don't count.

I can remember when I actually felt good about charitable giving. Today, any donation, results in the phone constantly ringing, tons of junk snail and email and people going so far as showing up at your door. 0 -
19.00 you can afford/help..20.00 ummm it is a mind game/marketing ya know get 2 for 19.99 just pay a seperate fee.. 0 -
Then you find out only 10 cents on the dollar goes for said cause and the admins are making $$$100s of thousands a year.
All this sympathy crap "it's for the children" the government uses that one big time too to pass new laws and taxes and "this puppy was abused and left out in the cold" then they show a shivering dog on a chain. Has wore itself out in my book. All they care about is how much money they can get you to send them.
I even had the state police call me one year at christmas time and threaten me because I said no for a donation. Right then I decided to never again donate anything to any one for any thing. Even my time as volunteer. Been there done that. Your the greatest when volunteering. Then it gradually becomes more and more and when you tell them you can't work that much then all of a sudden your some kind of low life that doesn't want to help the cause while those people are getting paid to have you volunteer "work for nothing" making them look good.
That's just really sad.0 -

I had a similar situation. I got a call from what I thought was the town volunteer ambulance group. I know most of the people and did not recognize this person so did not agree to a donation.
I called local group and come to find out they hired a funraising group that was keeping 90% of what was given so only 10% went to the volunteer ambulance group.
I asked them why volunteers were not calling, I would be glad to give to them. They said they were too busy to try to call people. I said then I am too busy to make a donation.0 -

Yup ... got that right. Add to that the 'scammers' using a charity to enrich themselves.
And that includes places like Goodwill. All their merchandise is free donations they sell using part time help paid minimum wage with no benefits...makes the owner richer than Manafort!

I've gotten to the point I don't donate to any. IF I have some items to get rid of, I donate them to the Salvation Army ... but NO ONE gets cash.

Made the mistake of giving money to Toys For Tots and a couple of others....now I'm drowning in address sticker labels....if my chosen charity kept the mailing lists to themselves I would continue to participate.....[xx(] 0 -
The majority want a credit card and email address. Made it that far many times and just hit the back button and close the window.
The go fund me about the vandalized "trolly cars" was the latest. Checked and they've raised $36+K so far. Probably the money I'd have donated wouldn't have bought a headlight.

There was a time in my life when I was injured and couldn't work and it was all I could do to keep from going completely under and losing everything. So now I give to charity exactly the amount that was given to me during my difficult time which is...ZERO!! 0 -
Because $19.00/Mo. sounds better than asking for $20.00/Month and receiving $0.00/Month.
I don't donate penney one to anyone who calls. Family included.

We probably have enough return address labels to last into the next century. At least 10 junk mail envelopes get trashed every week. When you donate to most of the "charities", they sell your contact info to lots of other beggars, thus the flood of requests. I have started giving a fictitious phone number and an email address that I clean out once a month to try to lessen the spam calls and messages. 0 -
We give to some of them a few times a year. They turn around and spend it on junk mail every week asking for more. I want the money to be used doing what they say they do instead of soliciting for more. We should just stop giving until they leave us alone and then donate anonymously so they won't know who to solicit. 0 -

X-Ring! and the ones I do donate to send thank yous, not invoices for further contributions. I have to lump NRA among those who do invoice, and so does SAF, though I contribute yearly, it never seems to be enough.0
