Back from the Garand Collectors meeting
I spent Saturday at the Garand Collectors Association meeting at the CMP Marksmanship Park in Talladega, AL. I won't bore you with GCA club details, but if you haven't been to the CMP Marksmanship park you are missing out on what must be among the premier firing ranges in the United States. The facility, which is not for from the Talladega race track, is truly world class.

All targeting is done electronically using computer screens which show the impact of each round. You can also watch the scoring from inside the clubhouse on one of three electronic scoreboards:

The park is simply amazing and is the kind of legacy which all of us want to leave behind to future generations of shooters. If you ever made a purchase from the CMP you helped to build this range.
Time constraints meant that I was not able to visit with Locust Fork (sometime I'll manage to do it), but on Sunday I was able to crowd a visit the USS Alabama and USS Drum in Mobile as well as the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola. I don't know if Old Colts is out there, but when I spotted this display in Pensacola I could not help but to think of him:
It was a hectic but great weekend.

I hate that it didn't work out that you could come by. I'm glad the weather wasn't crazy for your trip. We have had some kind of storm every week it seems and I had hoped fate would align for things to be nice while you were here. That is a VERY nice facility. They pulled out all the stops for that one for sure. 0 -
