Dumber ???

Are we all getting Dumber or is it just the 'younger generation' ???

Went to the local big blue box store ( I know : I really dont like it ) to get my big bag of dog food & my meds ! walked by the huge deli : they had some really good looking egg rolls ( I like them & can eat my weight in them if they are good ) , A young man ( apx. 20 )& a middle aged female came up to the other side of the counter , He asked "can I help You" ? I said "Yes" , I want a half dozen of the egg rolls ! His face went blank : He looked @ the female standing beside Him & Said " How many is a half dozen " ? I said " Are You kidding me "? I walked away just shaking my head !!! WTH ???

    I used to go to the bank and get half dollars and dollar coins. You would not believe the blank looks I received when using them to pay for things.

    I'm an old fart. 63yo. But I am always helping kids, I love em all.
    I have seen in the last 10 to 15 years a major shift in what is smart and dumb.
    A 5 year son of a very good friend of mine is in Kindergarten.
    He does math, spelling, sentence forming, and the like, everyday
    in class. I played with toys till the first and second grade to learn what he has.
    But the other side of the coin, a 15 year old girl did not know what
    "a quarter to 3" meant on a clock.
    A 17 yo girl I know got yelled at while working at Wendys, when
    she got confused with a customer giving her a $20 bill AND a dime
    for a sale of $10.10. She was yelled at not for not knowing what to , but
    for NOT using the cash register to do the math.

    Add 1 Taco Bell, mix well. Instant entertainment.

    Few years ago I talked to a young man that had graduated from a gunsmithing school. He could not covert fractions to decimals. (1/16" to .0625} etc and only read digital mics.
    I hope with experiance he will improve.

    ...and to ad to the dismay, ask any clerk at a check-out stand to count your change to you. THEY CAN'T DO IT !

    I worked for my Dad at his Pure Oil service station in the late 50s and 60s. If he had ever caught me just handing change back to a customer without counting it there would be hell to pay.

    Clocks with those arms and second hands are foreign to kids today. Smart Phones have digital read outs so do most things we see telling time. Ask a kid today what a bushel, peck and a pint is and they are lost.
