Stock Maker & Checkering

SP45
A while back someone on the forum was asking about a stock maker. Since then I found out that one has moved in my area. I have refinished hundreds of basic stocks but I certainly not a stock maker and forget about checkering. So I have been keeping him busy. He is also does unbelievable stock repair work. The photo is a LC Smith that had damaged checkering that he had to build up and redo. And he is a very nice guy.

    Saw a factory checkering a gun stock recently and had alway thought it was done by machine. WRONG.

    Would never be able to do this, gee, only a few simple tools. [:0]

    I may be a little biased as I have only had a couple stocks done
    it was a difficult thing for me to ship a stock off to some one I have never met the rifle had a lot of sentimental value what made it hard to ship out
    but both turned out great the rifle stock had some dings and scratches some maybe more than minor in the wood and some checkering issues the other a shotgun had swelling around the recoil pad over time

    the fellow is on the forum and auction side we know him as "old magics"
    he has a web site also

    to say I was pleased with Keith's work is a understatement
    just giving him a plug you may want to check with him also if you need a stock pistol grips or ?

    thanks for the plug DR, dont have the website any more, the place i was using vanished suddenly with no notice
    others wanted too much for the one or two orders i ever got from it, seems 99 percent of my work was word of mouth right here on G.B.
