You surely know, many places have such a difficult time finding someone WILLING TO WORK, they have to resort to hiring any warm body to fill the spot. USPS is no different.

You see it in EVERY business.[}:)]

Just go to the post office and pick it up as the 'representative' and the idiot behind the counter won't know the difference.
    [;)]

Except they close at 5Pm and I get of Work at 5 PM. If it was my local post office and they had a package for me they know to hold it till Friday and I will be in.

What does the USPS have in common with Payless shoes

100,000 pairs of loafers of every color.
My PO is staffed with most miserable pricks ever.

    +1

I have never been in a post office that was run efficiently, even over seas.

I would say the best run PO's are in Embassy's, the one in Kenya isn't too bad but in the US they are a goat screw.

The PO near me is always packed and there are never more than 2 people working the front. The Self mailing Kiosk is always broken and the machine to get stamps is screwed up.

I would think those 2 devices would have priority as they would lessen the burden on the employees. If I can I will always avoid the human because they are so frickin sloooooooooooooooooooooooooow its like everyone is on downers.

One pet peeve of mine is people waiting in line for 30 min to buy stamps[:(!] They have to have a certain kind with Elvis or Herriet Tubman on the stamp[:(!][:(!][:(!] WHO G'sAF what a stamp looks like as long as it pays the postage!!! You can buy stamps in the frickin grocery store.

The good thing is its a gun free zone because a trip there makes my trigger finger itch something awful.

    Rant over[:D]

That's right! Everyone should own a 1911. Why do we need all these "extra" types of guns? It's ridiculous. "WHO G'sAF" what a gun looks like as long as it shoots a bullet?

Who ever heard of "choice"? This is AMERICA!

Was it sent to an actual gun shop with business hours or was it sent to a home based FFL where the guy works a day job or something?

If they don't deliver to a gun shop it is actual crap.

If its a home based dealer I could kind of see it as they need someone to sign for it and if he's not there...well it goes back to the post office.

After reading the posts here I guess I should consider myself lucky, our small town post office does a pretty good job I think.

The problem is that it's Christmas time. And they can't get enough temporary help to deliver mail without having to deliver it at 8 at night...

YOU NEED TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE POSTMASTER!!!! Go on line and file a complaint......call the postmaster......don't just complain to the postmaster over that office.....go over their head and make sure you tell them they are BLATANTLY disregarding procedures. Show them that they never attempted to deliver your package and that you have learned that they are refusing to deliver ANY packages to this business. This is prejudice and unfair. This FFL should get their packages like any other customer. You want them to look at your tracking numbers and get back to you......and you want results NOW.

I cannot believe that the higher ups in the post office haven't been contacted before now. There is no reason any postal worker should be able to "refuse to deliver boxes" to any location. Give them hell. They deserve it.

I call BS, how did he know the package was at the PO. They leave a 4839 if no one there to sign, FFl can sign the back for redelivery.

The local postmasters in these instances are not who you want to complain to about this kind of behavior. Find out who the manager of post office operations is in your area. They should be located either at district headquarters or near the Processing and Distribution Center for your area. A little research will go a long way.

And for the serial "the post office lost billions of dollars again" criers: The postal service is under a mandate from a lame duck 2006 republican congress to prefund retiree health benefits for the next 75 years. Originally over 10 years, that time frame has been extended. No business anywhere in the world could operate at a profit under such a mandate, neither is any other business expected to. The post office gets NO taxpayer dollars to stay in business, since 1970. The "loss" constantly referred to is simply the unpaid portion of the prefunding mandate. So, in reality, if the mandate was lifted, the post office made a net profit of the difference between the perceived "loss" and the $5 billion annual mandate to prefund benefits for employees who aren't even born yet.

The Postal Destruction Act of 2006 was implemented by the likes of Darrell Issa, who wanted to privatize the profitable routes and leave the rest of the country to figure out how to get mail delivery themselves. Try sending a letter to the other side of the country, especially to a relatively uninhabited rural area, via FedEx or UPS for the cost of a first class stamp. That was what the likes of Issa wanted for most of the country.

And before anyone thinks otherwise, I agree that there is a lot of dead weight non-productive employment in the post office. This is especially true in the eastern states, where a certain demographic is employed far out of proportion to their percentage of total population, mostly due to racial nepotism. Combine that with the fact that small office postmasters make less on average than the manager of a chain grocery store, and now are likely hired off the street with no postal experience.

In the interest of full disclosure: I retired at the end of September after 16 years as an electronics technician in a Processing and Distribution Center. That and my 4 years of service in the U.S. Army got me a pension of about $1200 a month BEFORE my health insurance is paid and before taxes are taken out. And craft employees at my level are considered, even by postal management, to be the only skilled trade in the postal service at craft level.

Sorry for the rant, but it gets old hearing those who don't know and don't want to know the reality of the situation in the postal service. Every business with hundreds of thousands of employees has some bad employees, and generally even worse managers, who are the reason for the bad employees. If management handled their discipline procedures correctly, the unions in the postal service would have no recourse when the time came to try and protect the bad employees. But supervisors and managers can't even read and follow the discipline outlines in the respective contract. And typically they think that by virtue of their position they are smarter than the union representative arguing the discipline. That's almost never the case.

    Rant over.

While everyone is busy hopping around and fanning the flames, I'd like to point out that city delivery "persons" may or may not be required to deliver large packages mostly dependent on how the route is laid out and paid.
Therefore, before climbing onto a higher soap box, determine if you have a leg to stand on.

Oh BTW if your FFL is charging you a transfer fee and is unwilling to make the effort to pickup the package--HE'S CHEATING YOU.

He picked it up and does charge a transfer fee. Problem is in Oregon He gets charged by the state to do the Background check. I pay $30 state gets $25 of that.

He plainly says......"Well seems this happens all the time to them Post office will not deliver Packages to this gun Shop. So every morning they stop by and pick up what they have."

So....this is has NOTHING to do with the size of the box or such nonsense. If they refuse to deliver packages to this business it is plain discrimination or unimaginable laziness by the carrier that does that route.

City carriers have different rules vs rural carriers or "motorized city route". I sat on the "other side" of that USPS counter for nearly 30 years and have read and interpreted most of the information in all those big books of regulations.
I'd welcome "the rest of the story" so I can make a more informed comment as to who is right/wrong. So far, there has not been any solid information as to mail class of the "package" or any specific description of the actual type of delivery the gun shop is getting.
High value or theft risk packages might not be taken out for delivery attempts for security reasons.
