In this context, the mid-20th century use in Europe is what is intended, not the ancient use in the sub-continent.
That said, I could not help but notice:

The defaced section of the mural was based upon a photo obtained by defacing/destroying public property. Apparently, tearing pages out of libary books is OK.0 -
