New Laptop...
I finally got around to replacing my old Acer laptop.
This new Dell with AMD Ryzen 7 processor - 12 GB Memory - AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 - 256GB Solid State Drive is fast as lightning. From the time I turn it on it's up and running on the Internet in less than 15 seconds. You don't even have to put in a password it has face recognition. Amazing! The down side is they don't give them away. At $749.00 bucks + tax they are a bit pricy.
I used to spend 5 minutes just watching the little blue circle spinning before I could connect.

Got a new laptop yesterday. Toshiba A505, Intel Core i5, 2.26GHz. 4gb of RAM, HDMI Blu-Ray and all sorts of other savory goodies including Windows 7 (64 bit).
NIB for $850

Nothing wrong with the price. Lots of memory and a fast drive. When it takes too long to load, time to upgrade to a new unit. 0 -

I got a new one, too. Dell with the same 256 SSD. Mine goes from off to online in five seconds. It's a Chromebook, and it was $120.
I got sick of my old Win10 machine with its endless updates, slow response, and need for virus and malware programs. This Chrome OS will take some getting used to, but so far, I'm quite happy.0 -

My old Acer had the i7 processer but I don't think that's what made it slow. I think it's the AMD Radeon RX Vega 10 256 GB Solid State Drive that makes the difference in the speed on this Dell but I'm no computer whiz so I don't really know.0 -

I guess it's supposed to compete with the i7. If I had to guess, I'd wager it was the 12 GB of memory more than anything else.0 -
Thinking of a new computer in 2019. Have alway used intel BUT the Rizen @ $200 cheaper would make me change. The spec's are almost identical, Some tests are better on chip set than the other.
Believe the integration of all components into the vendors package will make the final difference. Dell has done a good job and haven't had any trouble with the Lenovo purchased overseas.
If I remember correctly the Rizen supported 12 threads vrs. Intels 8 threads.

Just make sure you backup your data regularly. When those SSDs fail, you aren't recovering anything.0 -

I don't know enough about them to make a call on that laptop.
But speaking of memory I just backed up everything that's on my old laptop computer on a 1000X 64 GB SD card. There must be a couple thousand pictures and documents along with quiet a few videos on that laptop.
My new Dell laptop also has an SD card reader slot on it so I just leave the SD card installed in the slot which gives me access to everything that was on my old computer without using up any space downloading it on my new laptop.
SanDisk makes a 512 GB SD memory card that sells for $199.00 on Amazon that you could download the liberary of Congress on.0 -
