    The English came to America, settled along the seacoast, and built plantations.

    Then the Germans came, moved further inland, and built farms.


    The Scotch-Irish got here, found the good land taken, so they moved to the mountains, and built stills.


    The plantations are now housing developments. The farms are shopping malls. The stills are doing well.

    By the time the War Between the States broke out the Scot ch-Irish culture had changed dramatically. Those anywhere in the south, more likely than not, had picked up what is known today as a North Carolina/Southern accent, and had long been intermarried with the Germans, English, etc. They were mostly protestants by this time steeped in southern culture. There are extremely few communities that celebrate Scotch-Irish heritage in the south today, literally - they are a very rare exception. Still, the influence that they had on the traditional American way of life, especially on the frontiers of America was the norm for generations, although it has rapidly changed since the civil rights/communists movement began taking control of American culture in a strong way, immediately after WW II, that persists with the progressive movement spearheaded by the BLM and other ANTIFA type groups.
