    I know many from the North, and history books that are more romanticized than reality make the Revolution the property of the north east colonies, but the Battle of Alamance was definitely a real rebellion against the British. And don't forget the Halifax Resolves, in April 1776, and the Mecklenburg Declaration in May 1775. Along with the battles fought in the South, and probably the most important, Cornwallis' last attempt to win the war by invading the South, the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, which ended that campaign. He retreated afterward to Yorktown and we know what happened there.
    Hillsborough is my home town and I have lived among these places where history was well known to me. I have seen the cobble stones (now covered up by a couple of feet of asphalt) laid on the mud street by Cornwallis' men when he camped in Hillsborough. I have been in many of the homes that were witness to all these events.
    Many times visited the site where the Regulators were hanged.

    The Battle of Alamance is probably little known to people who do not live in this area. Thanks for posting this. The Battleground is a nice place to visit, many exhibits, and the rocks in that picture are still there. I knew the man who built the cannon there, and many fine rifles, one of his is in the Smithsonian. He was that good. I've actually seen one of his sold here on GB. Wish I could have afforded it myself. His name is George Braxton.Thanks, Kimi.
