My personal favorite is Brigadier General John B. Gordon. I took this Don Troiani print (where Gordon is depicted while still a Colonel) off my wall for a better photo: 
JB Gordon was an interesting man and among the best of the Confederate brigadier generals. Confederate President Jefferson Davis characterized Gordon as having "splendid audacity". After the war, Gordon had a long and successful political career and published a book, "Reminiscences of the War of Northern Aggression ", which is well worth taking the time to read.0 -

Just to add a bit of good ole humor to your post, there were sure a lot of Southern Coronels left holding on to their titles after the war![:D]
The generals, not so much ona count it was much harder to prove![:0]0 -
My Great Grandfather was named after Eppa Hunton a Brigadier General. Obviously his parents thought highly of the man. 0 -
Another link to Confederate Generals: (Check out the bio of General Nathan Bedford Forrest, and the note that he captured Gen. Crittenden. Crittenden(?) later became the Governor of Missouri, and put the reward out for Jesse James. [:D])
