Got an estimate to tile two showers and most of the flooring in my house. $37,000. Wow. Seems like a lot.

Just how big is your house?? Our house is 1,600 SF. When we moved in 15 years ago my wife and I painted the entire house, triple coated no less, plus trim in less than 3 days for the cost of the paint and rollers. Already had everything else we needed. 0 -

How many square foot a floor, how many square foot of wall. What kind of tile are you going to use....

I am not really up to DIY. 14' ceilings and I'm too old and fat to be on ladders. Pretty big house at 3,250 square feet. House is only 10 years old but we hate the color and the flooring.
Tile estimate was based on middle of the road tile cost as we haven't even looked yet. Both showers are standard bathtub footprint. One has tub one does not. It was $7,000+ for the stand alone shower, $5,000+ for the tubbed shower, and $24,000+ for the floor tile.
Yes, another contractor coming Monday for estimate and got a card from the crew painting the house next door. Best deal may be from a handyman type.0 -
Good size house indeed. I'd shy away from a handyman on this. One screw up on tile work sticks out like a sore thumb. Stay with a pro and a warranty on his work.
Look at photo's of jobs your bidders have done.
Maybe do one section at a time. I'd get all painting done first. That will keep ladders,scaffolding,and paint off your new floors.0 -

Had the chance to do all that fancy stuff of tile in our home when we built it. Decided on Green board drywall, fiberglass showers and a nice Jet tub. Looks like I saved a ton of money and upkeep if the tiles break or cleaning the grout all the time. My advice, rip out the old tile , fiberglass the showers and the Mrs. will love you for the ease of cleaning it. Installers from box stores can do the easy installs. 0 -
