I will admit I am overweight but I was diagnosed diabetic about a year ago and I have never had a sweet tooth,,I even drink unsweetened tea. It runs in my Family,,both sets of Grandparents, ,my Mother and 2 of my Brothers all had/have diabetes,, Not much of a Choice for me !!

Start a food diary. Write down everything you eat.

You mentioned lung cancer. I had cancer on my tongue and in the lymphnodes in my neck. They had to replace a lot of skin in my mouth even the veins in my tongue. They took a vein from my right leg and made me new veins in the tongue they made from my thigh meat.

The first 5 or 6 times i saw my radiation doctor he kept asking me if i stopped smoking. I told him i have never smoked. He asked if i dipped and i told him no. He then asked if i drink alcohol and i told him no.

I asked him why i got this cancer and he told me he had no idea because i just ruled out everything he had.

I am the only person in my family that does not smoke and i am the one that got cancer. Until the last year i did not drink. However i started drinking lately.

If your going to get something i think you will.

I have never smoked but my doctor tells me I have problems from being around my family that smokes. My mother smoked her whole life.

I have diabetes that I got from Agent Orange. Also other problems from it.

I eat what I want when I want and am neither over weight or diabetic. My metabolism seems to be similar to a hummingbird--so much energy drain vs intake keeps me on an even keel.

IMHO, WORRYING about all the stuff you eat, drink, and smoke, is worse (for you) than all of the stuff you ate, drank, or smoked!

Worked with one guy that weighed about 145 soaking wet, ate no dairy products, no eggs, no red meat- had a cholesterol level that would kill a horse. Some things just is.

Modern processed foods are LOADED with carbs and sugars. Hell even milk has 11g carbs per cup. Cut those two items in 1/2 in your diet and it works wonders.

Not sure why it would reduce Cholesterol levels but Keto diet lowered my triglycerides, Cholesterol, and blood sugar.

I remember when half the World including Doctors and members on this board attacked the Adkins Diet as being unhealthy and bad,,Now half the World is on some sort of the same low carb diet just under different names and Doctors are recommending low carb high protein diets,,,

I wouldn't say my diabetes was a life choice, it was a result of poor choices. My life choice would be healthy.

I thought it was refreshing that some medical folks were saying that the person's life style choice might be the cause. Didn't blame the big soda, fast food, candy or the commercials that pushed it.

Genetics aside these doctors are blaming "life styles" for type 2 diabetes. I wonder when they'll start to drop from Coke and Pepsi going all clinton on their asses? I can see the news saying the doctors were found dead with King size Baby Ruths in their mouths.

dav1965 - I mentioned smoking as a life style choice and got cancer. Yours is obviously genetics and/or environment.

He Dog - Kind a is. Also it's where I get my news on what's going on [:D].

The plague of the 21st Century is a life choice. Like lung cancer from smoking two packs a day? I'm waiting for them to "up grade it" to slow suicide.

    No.

It is a genetic issue. If you have a doctor telling you otherwise, run away as fast as you can.

Not my doctor. Some "doctor" on the radio. Ah looks like I forgot to type this initially.

Are you saying type II diabetes is ONLY genetic?

I pee a lot. Doc asked me for a 24 hour urine specimen. I brought back 5100 ML.

2800 is considered on the high side of normal. This triggered a trip to the endocrinologist, but all the tests there showed normal numbers.

    I still pee a lot.

5100ml? What's that like a gallon? Did you take the "specimen" in Arizona ice Tea Jug?

I was given a collection bottle that holds around 3.5 liters. As the collection progressed, I could see that it would not hold all I had to offer, so I poured its contents into a large, clean water bottle, and started filling it again.

Over the years I've interviewed quite a few patients preparing for surgery who would say "I used to have diabetes but I got better." Often, when I checked their glucose levels, they would be in low or normal range. That got me searching for a few answers on the internet. I'm not
cured by any means, but I'm running lower glucose levels than I was. My
weight is down as well. Check out Doctor Berg and Doctor Fung on YouTube. Keto and prayer work for me.
