Try Getting In To Pick Up A Kid In School

It is a big pain in the butt to get Cam from school or to watch him practise wrestling.

Other sports i just go to the field. Wrestling it takes an act of congress. Plus if you are not on a list the only way to get in is wait for a door to open and sneak in.

    My wife picks up the eldest grandson from school a couple of days a week.

    Get your car in line. (Some get there 45 minutes early to wait.)

    Wait until you reach the front of the line (Can be up to an hour)

    Wait until a school employee brings the child to you, matches the child with the placard you have placed in the windshield and verified that the person in the car matches the description listed for said child.

    Never get out of your car. Never. Don't get out of your car.

    It is ridiculous, costs hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost time, gas, etc. but 90% of these millennial parents would sue the bejeezus out of the school if the chain of custody of their precious little Thaddeus was broken for even a second.

    Rural Upstate NY......Park in front of school. Go chat with Alice as my nephew comes from his class to the office. Give nephew a hug. Tell Alice goodbye. Walk out the door with nephew.

    Same thing with my sons when they went there.

    Small towns are great! [:D]

    And when you consider that child abductions by strangers number only 100-200 per Year, all these precautions seem a lot of over-zealousness.

    Locust Fork is still pretty much like Mayberry. They know who you are, they know who you are married to, they know where you live, they know all your relatives and who they are married to, they know all your kids and who your kids dated, they know what church you go to, they know you drive like you stole it, they know where you live, they know where you work, they know the minute you pull into the parking lot of the school and have whatever child you are picking up on the way to the office before you get to the doors.......and they will give you another child that needs a ride and they will have gotten permission from the other kids parents and will tell you what messages to give their parents when you deliver them.

    I can't remember about kindergarten but I know I walked to school by myself (or rode my bicycle) from the first grade on, rain or snow & so did everyone else except for those on buses. There also wasn't any fence around the school or a cafeteria & just about every boy had a pocket knife.

    ...and the school was 10 miles up the mountain. Had to carry your own firewood for the pot belly stove.
    Had a biscuit and piece of jerky for lunch.[8D]

    Only downside was that we didn't have any good looking female teachers giving sex education lessons. I can recall two that I really wish did. One broke my widdle heart when she got married on Christmas break.
