Sheesh, looks like I'm going to have to get offended when a minority drives Chevrolet, Ford, or Dodge. They were all made by white people, and it's offencive that they would be comfortable in a vehicle is that the company was started by white people. I mean those types of creature comforts are celebrating white people that worked hard too put company together[:o)]

I would suggest you educate yourself about The Trail Of Tears.
Would you feel the same if the rifle depicted the Jews being forced into the ovens at Auschwitz?
How about if it 'commemorated' the rape and murder of slaves under the whip?
The rifle commemorates the attempted Mass Murder of a Defeated people, men, women, children, under forced march in harsh conditions with little to NO food or water nor medical care.
An estimated 4,000 died from hunger, exposure and disease.
If you can't at least empathize with the Tribal Leadership in regards to their complaint, you have no soul, and I pity you.0 -
one of the overwintering posts was about 10 miles SE of our lake place in eastern kansas....should have called it the trail of DEATH...there is an old sign at the corner but i was told the real location is a few miles further east....and marked that spot on one of my maps...need to find some oldtimer around that still knows the right place 0 -

one of my fav books i found in 1972 is a copy of the Outline Descriptions of the Posts in the Military Division of the Missouri circa 1876...along with a map of the Historic Forts of the Old West by the 200th anniversary of the US Army 1975 ...41 of the major historic forts with info on the major trail across the west....the first book has lengthy descriptions of the forts and surronding land, natives and conditions along with lattitude and longitude locations 0 -

No place in my post do you see that the trail of tears should be celebrated, but I think it should be commemorated. Just like 9/11 is commemorated. People like you that think that you should hide by sticking your head in the ground and forgetting all the atrocities that has fallen on people in America has no soul...
History forgotten is history repeated. That's why they have commemorative items for 911 also. Like this firearm. To remember the tragedy of that date...

If a firearm that commemorates an unpleasant event is offensive what should we do with military firearms used to kill Americans, or perhaps those made with enslaved labor? Some express a concern regarding the messaging of a firearm that harmed no one, what about those which did or were made under extraordinarily brutal conditions? Do we parse out for display or purchase only those firearms that don't carry with them some sort of offense or unfavorable messaging?
What to do about all those Winchesters and Colts, Schofields and such that were actually used against Indians - is the Cody Museum guilty of symbolic hate speech?
I presume the rifle involved went back to its owner - it still exists, it will be sold and valued by its next owner. And the next. But the "feelgood" effect this fellow experienced, achieving nothing and substituting self-satisfaction for accomplishment, is all that matters to him. I had several ancestors who accompanied the Indians on the trail. They were part Cherokee and had been indentured servants to the Cherokee's.
My Uncle has a horn made out of a cows horn that they would blow on the trail so people that were lost or straggling would know where to camp.
People in today's world are very weak minded and thin-skinned not to mention ignorant.[:(!]

The pictures on the box are obviously intended to show the forced relocation of the Cherokee. Bass Pro states on the tag that it is a Trail of Tears commemorative with the original box.
As stated by many above, commemorating an injustice is not a celebration of that injustice, nor does it remotely suggest approval or support of it.
To think in this manner would lead one to a pull Dee Brown's 'Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee' from libraries and book stores.
It would lead one to advocate for the caseation of reading the names of those killed on 11 September 2001 every year on 11 September.
It would lead one to gasp at the foolishness of a Pearl Harbor sailor from wearing a 'Pearl Harbor Survivor' ballcap.
The snowflake who brought this to the public eye is projecting an offense upon something that is designed to be supportive of those who were oppressed, not supportive of the oppressors.
The people of the United States have, as individuals and through our elected officials done things over the years for which we should be ashamed and of which we should be reminded continuously. The fact that this offense-whore's tweet came to the attention of anyone should be what is condemned.
We need to own our history. This includes our complete history with all of its shining and dark moments. We embrace and learn from those shining moments. the question was posed....does it bother you to know, that your luger or mauser may have been used to kill jews or americans?
