A Recent Phenomenon...Have You Noticed?
I am encountering more and more buyers who simply state: "Here is my FFL's phone number/email. Contact him for whatever you need." (Or words to the same effect.)
I plainly tell the buyer to send me the item description, payment and FFL copy. How hard is that to comprehend?
And then, there are FFLs who are reluctant to cooperate. One told the buyer that he would not email the FFL copy to me, because he didn't want the buyer in the middle of the deal. (Whatever that means.)
I smell a bunch of "F" ratings coming up.

As a matter of fact, yes I have. My current auction winner didn't even bother to let the dealer, he picked on his end, know about a possible transfer. I'm expecting this one to be a NPB because I wouldn't accept PayPal for the firearm transaction. 0 -
It's not hard to comprehend, David, however, my FFL won't comply with such a request, so I ask the seller to please contact him via his phone number in order to start processing any required information. 0 -
I have never received a receipt from a dealer when I buy a gun.
Going tomorrow to pick up a gun purchase. Will ask for a receipt. Wonder if I will get one.0 -
I fail to understand.
When I need an 01 FFL to receive a modern gun I have bought, I have a local dealer/gunsmith. I take him an envelope, addressed, stamped, containing a copy of the winning auction, note thanking seller and a postal money order. He copies his FFL, puts copy in envelope, seals it, drops in mail.
When gun arrives, he calls me, I go do paperwork, pay him his $10, run home admire my gun.
Lack of drama, hurt feelings, delays. So boring I must be missing something to create the excitement I read that others have.0 -
I get that all the time.....my dealer will not send their license until YOU contact them....or you send them your FFL first.
I get all kinds of miffed because it puts extra steps in something that is a really simple process, but I tend to calm down pretty quickly and just play along to hurry up and be done with it. Once you've made the call or sent the emails it typically makes things proceed along. Its the guys that have ONE PERSON you have to contact to get the FFL and they are out of the store that I will not play along with. I tell the buyers that I made the effort, but it looks like they need to get another FFL.0 -
I have also had that happen, and like LF, it really bugs me. Mostly because this is not the way things are supposed to be done, and because I always clearly state in my listing that I must have a signed copy of the receiving dealer's FFL. I am a dealer so I need a certified copy. EZ Check won't suffice. 9 out of 10 times when I contact the dealer he/she shows the expected professional courtesy, but every now and then I run into a dealer who hates internet gun sales in general, and Gun Broker in particular. 0 -

I have a good enough relation with my local FFL that I can promptly email an E-copy to the seller and that is it.
Conversely, I have used GB checkout and loaded my FFLs number without sending an e-copy at all if my recollection is good. I am clueless how this works but, I end up with whatever I won.
The greatest complaint I get from my FFL is a gun in a box with absolutely ZERO paperwork.0 -
All part of the plan for the greater good. The more paperwork the better for the bureaucrats; also when the paperwork gets too great they'll quit selling them.[:(!][:(!][:(!] 0 -
As a buyer many FFL's will not provide a copy of their license for me to send to the shipping FFL and you would probably want it from them anyway.
I have my FFL send a copy of their FFl to the shipping FFL. With Auction number, or invoice Etc. my name and what the item is.
When selling since I am not a FFL regardless of C&R or whatever I use my FFL to ship to theirs. My FFL gets so many FFL's in that don't indicate who they are for or what item it is for that they usually end up calling the FFL or Emailing for a copy once they get the info from me.0 -

People feel they are ENTITLED to get or do whatever they want and how they want it.
Thanks to the communist movement that infiltrated and indoctronated the public education system and the colleges in the USA.

That is exactly what I have seen in mine and my wife's business. Fortunately we are at a time when we tell these people to take a hike.
Life is short and what I have left I do not need to be dealing with these types.0 -

Kimi, you need an new transfer FFL. I have a copy of my transfer ffl's license in my computer. When I make a purchase, I send the seller all the contact information, and a copy of the license. With some I can even complete the payment via credit card through GB. With some, I still have to snail mail a check/MO. It really should be easy. Look around, there are bound to be some good ones in your area.0 -
I only use Whittaker arms for transfers. When I win, I call Mr. Whittaker and he sends all the info needed to procure the firearm for me. I would do it myself, but he told me he doesn't mind and it is part of his service. I give him the name of the guy I won it from, and he calls me when it is there. By the way, He is a GB FFL. 0 -
When I buy on GB I generally pay by credit card so I have nothing to mail. I just email a copy of the auction to my FFL guy, along with the seller's contact info. He emails (or faxes if necessary) a copy of his FFL along with my name and the auction info. he then emails me back and says "done" and that's it until the gun arrives. If he has ever had trouble with the selling FFL guy, he has never mentioned it, and no seller has ever mentioned a problem to me. 0 -

It's amazing how something so simple and straight forward can be complicated by the unwilling.
[:D]
Yes it is amazing. It seems to me that some people just have to make stuff as complicated as possible.0 -

I know I do need to do that, Dale. I haven't bought but about four in the last several years. You're lucky. I'm even thinking of buying an AR type, before the end of the year due to the new regs up here, since I don't have one.0 -
I often see here on the Forum that someone says "It's so easy...why can't they just do it?" when someone asks them to do something.
Sometimes if it's so "easy", why NOT just do it yourself? Especially if a customer asks you to? If you're the seller, you should know more about selling than a buyer...and sometimes buyers are new and don't know how to do "simple" things.
Why complain all the time? As far as I'm concerned, the customer just has to pay. Once I get his/her money, I'll handle the rest.
It's just a phone call or email. And if it's "but I do thousands every day"...then you're doing too much and trying to make too much money. Or you need to hire some help.0 -
Here's another one:
Buyer: Make sure you send me tracking information when you ship.
Me: OK.
So, I ship and I send a link to the tracking information.
Two days later...
Buyer: Just checking to make sure you got my payment. Please advise.
Me: (Thinking) Sheesh! What a maroon!
Me: Here is what I sent you, two days ago, again.0
