I have loaded with both .44 and .445 diameter round balls. Using slightly thicker patches with the .44's. Both shot accurately with real black Goex 3F powder using various target and hunting loads from 50 grains to as high as 80 grains in the rifle. My max powder load for the pistol is 50 grains and no higher. Best pistol accuracy was using 45 grains.

+1 to brooks, the patch thickness will make up for the smaller ball, you will just have to expirement with the right combination, as I have seen two of the same brand rifles shoot different, my experience has been each is slightly different. they make .05, .10, .15 thickness patch, it gets expensive but you may try each, I allways went undersized for ease of reloading, that just me.

    Thanks, Guys,
"Close but undersized with patch thickness as required." Got it.
    Thanks!

With the rifle, you MAY find it likes patchless Maxi balls more than round ball. I have a T/C .50 that is a tack driver with Maxies.

Maxi's & conical bullet shaped lead projectiles would be the same size as your bore diameter. 45 caliber in this case. They are lubed and loaded atop the powder charge without a patch.
