I was on the Atlanta Braves ground crew in 1969. When it rains, a dozen guys roll out a big 3 foot diameter piece of steel pipe, 40 feet long, that has a huge tarp rolled up around it.

I was one of those guys.

I got to watch Phil pitch for free from the right field fence. He was a hell of a pitcher.

My screen name is in honor of Phil, the only man I ever saw that threw slower and more junk than me πŸ˜‚ but it was his brother Joe while pitching for Houston was caught with one in his back pocket during a game and was suspended πŸ˜€, like the old coaches always says " if you ain't cheat'en you ain't trying ". Both were credits to baseball, may both RIP.

Junkballer, correct me if wrong, catchers hate knuckleballers because they don’t know where the ball is going and have to chase down a lot of passed balls.

Your correct, even the pitchers don't know where it's going when it's released, everyone hates it including the umpires πŸ˜€. It moves very much like a butterfly as it flies and about the same speed too.....😁

As Bob Uecker was quoted as saying on Johnny Carson: β€œThe way to catch a knuckleball is to wait until it stops rolling, then go pick it up.” πŸ˜‚
