what alot of you guys don't understand or know is, most of these loads are relayed across the country , what this means , well lets take my run , i live in WI and work for a trucking company that is contracted to the USPS , my loads all start off in Jersey City, NJ on the easy coast and on the west they start from Seattle WA and they are relayed all the way across, my part of the relay is from WI down thru Chicago into Indiana where we meet the truck coming out of Jersey , ( which all ready had 2 relays done one in PA and one in OH ) we switch trailers and return back to WI where the next drivers gets into the truck and takes it to the western side of MN where he meets the driver that has the trailer that came out of Seattle, ( those trailers had switch points ID, MT and ND) they switch and go back to where they started their day from and let the next drivers do the relay all over again ,

So as long as every thing works according to the time line ( 12 hours for each part of the leg ) every thing goes just fine but when you have lets say a storm like what hit the east coast last week it will screw these relays up for a day or even several days if its bad enough. If every thing goes as planned each load with make it across the country in less than 3 days but when some thing screws up, loads get behind and then every one plays catch up
