Winchester shipped Colt saa

    One of the common theories is that some entity ordered a number of Winchester rifles (in this instance caliber 44-40 Model 1873s) and wanted a like number of Colt SAAs in the same caliber. This simplified the process for the buyer as they only had to place one order with Winchester instead of two, one with W and the other with Colt.


    Another possibility is that W used these revolvers for ammunition testing.

    Off the top of my head, the caliber was not stamped on the barrel until about 1890. The revolver linked in the OP was shipped in 1880.

    44 CF is stamped on the L side of the trigger guard. NOT WCF, just CF. Colt was not going to give free advertising to a competitor
