115 WINDS AND SNOW!!! That's some stuff right there. I mean, you can't get "out." Houses built to take that kind of punishment up there I suppose?

That's a Crazy forecast. I don't mind the snow, but 115mph winds and snow? No thanks.

    Stay safe.

Don't despair. The "Monster winter storm" they've been forecasting for us today turns out to be nine snowflakes.

Well we made it through the night, sure nuff 115 indicated, it’s down to about 60-70 now and snowing. We have an impressive drift across the downwind side of the house, I had to dig it out so I could go check on our neighbor, she’s 88 and lives alone. Her power went out so I brought her Christmas treats and a thermos of coffee and some blankets. I threatened to drag her kicking and screaming back to our house if the power isn’t on soon. She’s fiery and independent and capable but not this time.

It’s really something watching the trees. My dad used to say

”good timber doesn’t grow with ease, the stronger the wind, the stronger the trees”

That sure applies to lots of things in life.

That’s really good of you to keep tabs on her. Probably hard for her to give up independence after this long. Good luck convincing her to stay with you a while until the power is back.

Tell her better to fight and run away so she can fight another day! And peeps in the lower 48 are rooting for her!!

Oh we've seen worse. I live up on the side of a pass with Prince William Sound on one end, and Cook Inlet on the other. They have different weather patterns so the pressure has to "equalize" through the pass. We get some crazy wind. You can hear it roaring by overhead, touching down with some big gusts, or it will just stay on the ground and wreak havoc.

What do you folks make your kites out of up there? Angle iron and sheet metal with 1/4" braided cable for a string?

Usually we just tie a winch to a cinder block and let er rip.
