Regarding M1A and soft points
I was reading that SFA recommends not using soft tip rounds in the M1A (specifically the SOCOM 16 CQB. Does anyone have any comment on whether this is accurate or why they would recommend this?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure why they say that, but they sure do in the online M1A owner's manual. I do not recall my owner's manual saying that, but I would have to dig it up and look. They do state that it is perfectly fine to use 308 Winchester ammo in their M1A though. I have bought several boxes of Remington 150 gr. Cor-Lokt ammo to use in my M1A, although I have yet to try it. I was just looking on an M14 forum, and there's bunches of shooters using soft point bullets in their M1A/M14 type rifle with no apparent down side.

As I understand it, soft pointed tips can get battered / flattened in the magazine and during feeding into the chamber and cause a jam. Not using them eliminates the malfunction potential.

MY WAG! As far as the manufacturers of modern firearms are concerned, legal liability is their biggest nightmare. They will put any disclaimer their lawyers can think up, no matter how remote. To cover their butts, from any perspective legal action.
